» Read Full StoryThe iconic Mondaine Watch brand — offering the immediately identifiable official Swiss railway station clock design that is known around the world – has broken ground in the building of its all-new state-of-the-art watch factory in Biberist, near its current facility in Solothurn, Switzerland.
In early August, the bulldozers scraped the surface on the site where the huge machines will drill close to 200 pillars 17 meters into the ground for the solid base of the new factory. One image (attached) features the new bridge for pedestrians and bicyclists to get to the city of Solothurn across theAare River; the other picture depicts the new bridge for cars to have easy access to the factory from Zurich, Berne, Bienne, etc.
The new workshops will be four times the size of the current plant, and will open in early 2009, if all goes according to plan. Assembly of the Mondaine brand, Luminox and Camel, as well as private label watches, will take place in a “clean room” built according to strict codes. Additionally, assembly of parts such as dials, hands LLT (Luminox Light Tubes) and other components will take place at this factory. Quality Control of parts and final product, storage of POP materials, displays and other products will also be in this building, as will distribution of watches, jewelry and materials to all international markets.
Mondaine Watch Ltd. – creator of the official Swiss Railways Watch collection, licensed by the “Swiss Railways SBB” – launched just over 20 years ago. It represents the consumers’ version of the Swiss Railways Clock. In Switzerland, 3,000 of these famous Swiss clocks have indicated the precise time at all Swiss train stations for more than 60 years.

The Body Glove line of Watches, distributed by Time Concepts, is designed for function and performance – and built for people who have their own style, as well. First shipped to retailers in March 2007, this young, vibrant brand captures the unique Body Glove style, while maintaining the unmistakable quest for performance.
Body Glove is widely regarded as the inventor of the wetsuit, used for water sporting endeavors. In keeping with Body Glove’s core product, all watches are created for water environments, albeit, a diverse set of water sports.
Of particular interest are the Billy watches and the Flow collection, both of which have surf heat timers on the bezels. The Billy line is named for Bill Meistrell, one of the founding brothers of Body Glove. These two collections are crafted in 316L marine-grade stainless steel with steel bracelets with safety clasps. There is also a version with a black PVD case and bracelet with a black dial. Each of the two lines is available in four dial colors (red, blue, yellow and black). The watches feature screw-down locking crowns and screw-down casebacks. The movement in the Flow line is a Swiss tide movement with moonphase and tide indicator and date readout. The Billy watches house Japanese movements with date indication. Both lines have hardened scratch-resistant mineral crystals and unidirectional rotating timing bezels with surf heat countdown timers. Both are water resistant to200 metes. Flow retails from $295 to $325, and Billy retails from $175-$205.
Among other watches offered are serious dive watches with 300 meter water resistance, such as the Big H2-Oh watch ( an oversized 55mm piece with screw-down crown and case back), and more swim and surf type models such as the colorful Neptoon Lady, available in six colors but also water resistant to 300 metes.
The entire Body Glove timepiece collection ranges in retail from approximately $90 to $350, and consists of models with steel cases and straps that range from polyurethane to nylon, waterproof leather and solid link steel bracelets. There is a retro collection of chronographs with braided leather straps and antique dials that recall the early 1950’s when Body Glove got its start. In total, approximately 30 new timepieces are unveiled each year.
This year, Body Glove wetsuit surfer Alex Gray is the official spokesperson or the timepieces, as well and wears a watch on all his surfing expeditions. Time Concepts was formed by Barry Cohen, the founder of Luminox, as a separate entity, created expressly for the development and marketing of the Body Glove brand of watches. Body Glove was founded in 1953 and toady is a leading worldwide action sports brand.
