Pro Skater Stevie Williams Launches New Online Hotspot

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:

PRO SKATEBOARDER STEVIE WILLIAMS ROLLS IN WITH NEW ONLINE HOTSPOT
Williams Partners With Interscope Records to Create First Online Destination For
Urban Street Skateboarding Culture

Feb 18th, 2009 (Los Angeles, CA) – Steelo Hero (www.steelohero.com) has emerged as the first online destination dedicated to the urban street-skateboarding culture and the lifestyle it inspires.  Pro skateboarder Stevie Williams of DGK (Dirty Ghetto Kids) has partnered with Interscope Records to create the interactive website. Steelo Hero is the source for the latest news around music, fashion, and street skate lifestyle as well as the shapers of the culture – told through exclusive interviews, videos, blogs and editorial straight from the hottest new artists, athletes, industry icons, etc.

Williams, a frontier for urban street-skateboarding, came up with the concept and name Steelo Hero (derived from the word “estilo” meaning style) to identify those who drive the culture forward, defy convention and create their own path for success; these skaters, designers, entrepreneurs, etc. represent the new “rock stars” of our time. Williams will also provide content direction and oversee creative development.

“Steelo Hero is relevant to today’s skate, streetwear and music culture,” says Williams.  “It’s a community where style is not only taken at face value, but it translates how today’s Steelo Heroes are trendsetting to the masses in whatever their respective passions - fashion, music, skate, art, etc. This website is a hybrid of urban street skate and pop culture, mixed with humor and the knowledge of influencers on the cutting edge of all of these worlds!”

Recognized artist Benny Gold designed the logo, adding the crown to signify the hero/king concept of the brand.  Much of the site’s direction and editorial content will come from Steelo Hero’s Editor-in-Chief Leland Ware.  Leland is the creator/founder/editor of one of the top underground skate sites “48 Blocks” (www.48blocks.com) and has contributed to such publications as Thrasher, Vapors, Juxtapoz and Slap, among many others.

“Stevie hit me up with the Steelo Hero concept and coming up as a skater, writer, music fan, it could not be more perfect,” says Ware. “With 48 I focus on core skate, but Steelo allows me to push deeper into the culture. Stevie’s vision is to showcase who and what is now and next – I’m just creating the platform… Tack on Interscope, where Jimmy Iovine’s been pioneering since day one and it’s a wrap!”

Steelo has a full line up of exclusive and original content releasing this week, including “Darren Harper: Episode One”, the first installment of a four part video series featuring Washington DC’s rising star Darren Harper (DGK Skateboards, Famous Stars & Straps, Diamond, Venture), and later this month an interview by Williams with Pro skater Rob Dyrdek of MTV’s “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory”.  Also, keep on the look out for limited edition apparel in partnership with Mighty Healthy, Undefeated and many others coming soon.
