2008 Surf Snow Cup “King of Crossover”

Methven, New Zealand - Strap yourself in and get ready for an exciting new boardriding event hitting Christchurch this winter. From September 25th – 27th the inaugural Surf Snow Cup “King of Cross Over”, presented by the Blue Pub Methven, will bring some of Australia and New Zealand’s top surfing and snow boarding talents to the shores of New Brighton Beach Christchurch and the slopes of Mt Hutt Canterbury, to battle it out for up to $10,000 in cash and prizes.

The Surf Snow Cup is open to anyone and offers the chance for local riders to match their skills against top class riders for a chance at the $1500 first prize. The money won’t stop there though with cash prizes all the way down to 8th position and a $600 prize cheque for the highest placed amateur. There will also be special prizes for the best local rider in each discipline and the best tricks. To enter head to myspace.com/surfsnowcup and download an entry form.

This exciting new contest will pitch the pro’s against the amateurs over two disciplines of surf and snow in a seeded format that will see two rounds in each discipline and invitee riders brought in just to mix it up a bit at the business end of the rounds. At the completion of two days of full on boardriding competition the Surf Snow Cup will reveal who can master both disciplines well enough to be crowned the “King of Cross Over”.

The event sees current Crossover champ and boardriding extraordinaire Marcus Stocker (Thredbo) make a welcome return to competition along with up and coming pro riders Clint and Mitch Allan (Perisher) and serious shredder Matt Wrobel (Jindabyne). On the other side of the Tasman coin we see the likes of seasoned ripper Felix Dickson (Auckland), a host of young and up and coming Christchurch riders and young Kiakoura aerial expert Levi O’ Conner (Kiakoura) enter the mix all in the name of finding out who is the “King of Crossover”

“I’m pumped and really looking forward to riding in this event, and can’t wait to see some of these local rippers the boys have been talking about’, said a stocked Marcus Stocker, ‘there are so many good crossover riders out there these days it will be great to see how high the bar can be raised’.

Thursday September 25th The North Wai Boardriders host the 40-man format surfing contest that will see competitors pit their skills against each other in a professional format to gain seeding into the snow discipline, with each rider taking a position from 1 to 40. The contest moves to Mt Hutt on the 27th of September to complete a one-day Slope Style event. The slopestyle course will be made up of 2 lines an A line consisting of rails and a B line a rail then kickers to allow for riders to ride hard or easier lines. The 40 riders will battle it out to see who will be crowned the “King of Crossover “ for 2008 and earn the respect of both subcultures.

The Surf Snow Cup celebrations wont end there continuing on at The Blue Pub, Methven, with a huge evening of extreme entertainment on Saturday the 27th September worthy of such an event. The night’s festivities will kick off with an open Rail Jam at 6:30pm held right in the front of the Blue Pub. 24-meter rail parks will be erected with competitors of the Surf Snow Cup sliding it as well as any young riders who think they can match it with the big boys.

But that’s just the beginning. The Samuel’s Bar at the Blue Pub will be hosting a VIP after party. Doors open at 8pm for the winner’s presentation followed by a hot Fashion show showcasing some of the winter’s must have items to keep you looking the part on the slopes next season.

A Ripper night of live music is to be expected featuring three hot live acts including local Methven rockers Doppler, Dunedin sensations the Julian Temple band and to see the night out the headline act GOOD NIGHT NURSE. Rowans, Joel, Sam and Jaden have just completed a very successful tour of Australia promoting their new album. The Blue Pub Proudly presents this one off South Island show. Definitely one of the finest acts to come to Methven this winter season and not to be missed. This line up of live music will be one of the parties to remember.

Tickets will be strictly limited for this one and available soon from the Blue Pub. This weekend will truly be one of the 101 must do weekends so don’t miss out!
