STRATTON, VT (March 19, 2009) Over 50 women took to the halfpipe today for qualifications amid variable weather conditions at Stratton Mountain Resort on the third day of the US Open in Vermont. Only five lucky ladies would earn spots in Saturday’s semi-final competition where they would face riders like Olympic Gold Medalist, Kelly Clark, X-Games Gold Medalist Torah Bright, and TTR World Champion Jamie Anderson.
Canadian Open halfpipe winner Palmer Taylor was boosting, Kendall Brown threw down some solid runs, Cilka Sardar and Elizabeth Beerman all looked solid, earning their places in Saturday’s semis, but it was Norwegian Linn Haug that took the top spot with her first run that started off with a big frontside stalefish, followed by a clean method, followed by a frontside 540, into a McTwist, finishing with a nosegrab.

The US Open action continues tomorrow with men’s and women’s slopestyle qualifiers, the invitational quarterpipe competition and concert featuring RJD2. The US Open is the last stop on the Burton Global Open Series and offers riders the chance to earn points towards a male and female championship title, each worth $100,000, currently the largest single payout in competitive snowboarding.
The 2009 US Open halfpipe, slopestyle and quarterpipe action can be seen on NBC, Sunday, March 29 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. EST. The second day of the 27th annual US Open saw a field of 121 men vying for 40 spots in Friday’s slopestyle qualification round. Of those 40, only ten will move on to Sunday’s semi-finals where they will face invited riders like Chas Guldemond, Shaun White, Tim Humpreys, Charles Reid, Risto Mattila and Sebastien Toutant.

The largest snowboard event is back: USA Snowboard Association Nationals 2009. Copper Mountain, from 5 to 10 april 2009, will see thousands of riders, coming from the 36 USA series, challenging for the national titles in half pipe, slope style, boardcross, slalom.
An incredible event, with a value of 3star for the “open class” category, reserved to USA and foreign riders at higher level. On the other side, the schedule of the event, include age categories from 6 to over 60 years old riders, competiting in every snowboard disciplines for the largest snowboard event in the world.

The RJD2 show will follow the US Open quarterpipe finals on Friday, March 20 when riders like Kelly Clark (USA), Peter Line (USA), Antti Autti (FIN) and Cheryl Maas (NED) plan to compete. Santigold will play a live show on Saturday, March 21 following the US Open halfpipe finals, where many of the world’s best snowboarders like Shaun White (USA), Kelly Clark (USA), Torah Bright (AUS) and Kevin Pearce (USA) and Gretchen Bleiler (USA) will battle for US Open titles.
Come watch some of the world’s best snowboarding and music for free this weekend at the US Open Snowboarding Championships at Stratton Mountain Resort, Vermont. And for the sake of the environment and a pleasant parking experience, we strongly encourage you to carpool to the US Open. SUMMARY: Heavenly Mountain Resort has opened online registration for the popular Jackpot Rail Jam Series at www.skiheavenly.com/parks select News & Events in the bottom bar and click on Jackpot Registration. Registration is open to the first 50 competitors for the kick-off event to be held March 21, 2009 at the base of World Cup at Heavenly’s California base. Open registration will be held in the Heavenly Race Department the day of the event from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm if spots are available. Registration is $10 and competitors will receive a Jackpot Rail Jam T-shirt while supplies last.
Participants are competing for a place in the March 28th Jackpot Rail Jam Finals which boasts a cash purse prize in addition to sponsor gear. This is the final qualifying event; the top ten finishers will qualify for the final event. Awards will be given to top finishers in men’s skiing and snowboarding, women’s skiing and snowboarding and overall best trick. This judged event is designed for skiers and snowboarders who are comfortable on advanced rail features who want to battle the best for a spot in the finals and some sweet prizes.
Immediately following the Jackpot Rail Jam will be an all-girls exhibition event hosted by BettyLife.com. If you are a female snowboarder and would like to participate in this event only please check-in at the Heavenly Race Department to sign a waiver form between 3:00 and
4:00 pm. Registration for this event is free and there are cash and swag prizes.
