Network Provides High Definition Viewing Experience on www.fuel.tv

LOS ANGELES, CA - FUEL TV, the only network dedicated to the lifestyle of action sports, is partnering with Vans and Pro-tec for the most anticipated bowl contest of the year. On Saturday, May 16, viewers will be able to watch the 5th Annual Pro-tec Pool Party live on FUEL TV’s high definition quality webcast at www.fuel.tv/live/poolparty <http://www.fuel.tv/live/poolparty>  from 1:00 pm PT to 9:00 pm PT.

The contest features the world’s best Pros, Masters and Girls vying for their piece of a $90,000 purse in one of the most unforgiving bowls ever built. Held in a near exact replica of the infamous Upland Combi at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, the 2009 Pro-tec Pool Party is going to turn out some of the best bowl action of the year

“FUEL TV is excited to bring this HD-viewing experience of the Pro-tec Pool Party to the web,” says Gene Pao, FUEL TV’s Vice President of New Media and International Development. “Skaters around the world will be able to watch this incredible contest in a way they’ve never seen it before. By employing the high quality video delivery technologies from Move Networks, FUEL TV is bringing the best action sports coverage available to its viewers. After our successful HD webcast from the 2009 Tampa Pro, we know people are stoked to watch all the action in this amazing quality.”

“We’re excited to be partnering with FUEL TV on this HD webcast of the Pro-tec Pool Party,” says Doug Palladini, Vans’ VP of Marketing. “FUEL TV has been a great television partner and has aired the last several Pro-tec Pool Parties on its network. To have FUEL TV now webcast this contest live in HD quality is awesome.”

The Pro-tec Pool Party brings out some of the best skaters in the world to compete in Pro, Masters, and Girls categories. Some of the standouts in the Pro division are three-time champion Rune Glifberg, 2006 champion Omar Hassan, and other standouts like Bucky Lasek, Bob Burnquist, and Benji Galloway. The Masters contingency will include legendary skateboarders like four-time Pro-tec Masters Champ Chris Miller, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Lester Kasai and Jeff Grosso. The Girls division will include defending champion Mimi Knoop, past champion Cara-Beth Burnside, and up-and-coming standout Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins.

FUEL TV has successfully executed several action sports webcasts this spring—most recently the six-star prime 6.0 Lowers Pro at Trestles. In addition, FUEL TV produced the first full HD webcast of a skateboarding contest, the Tampa Pro, in March. In all cases, FUEL TV has utilized video technology from Move Networks that provides video delivery rates up to 2.4 Mbps, more than three times the encoding rate of traditional technologies.

FUEL TV also offers full-length episodes of its programming in HD Streaming on its web site. Viewers can watch HD versions of shows such as “New Pollution” and “Firsthand” using the same HD player as is used for the 2009 Pro-tec Pool Party webcast.
