Recent Survey Reveals Leading Cost Reduction Measures In U.S. Companies

A recent survey conducted by Chicago’s Challenger, Gray & Christmas sheds some insight on what companies in the United States are doing to cut expenses due to the current economic crisis. According to the survey, the number one way companies are reducing costs is through cutting travel expenses (66.7%), followed by hiring freeze/ reduction (57.8%), and—sadly— coming in third is permanent layoffs (55.6%).

PacSun Announces Layoffs

PacSun has announced a workforce reduction resulting in the elimination of 47 positions at the Company’s Anaheim headquarters and 10 field management positions. This action reduces the Company’s headquarters and field management staff by approximately 11 percent.

Quiksilver Eliminates 200 Jobs

Quiksilver announced today that it will be eliminating 200 positions at the company. Of the 200, 150 employees will be losing their jobs. The other 50 positions were approved and budgeted for, but not yet filled.

Executive Restructuring At Quiksilver Continues

Quiksilver has eliminated the job of Roxy President, Carol Christopherson. She joined the company in 2000 after a seventeen-year stint with the Millers Outpost Stores. Steve Tully will take on an expanded role as President of Wholesale Americas.

This news comes just days after the company announced the resignation of Quiksilver Americas President Marty Samuels.

Updated: Layoffs Reported At Reef

Yesterday afternoon Reef reportedly let go of as many as 42 employees from its office in Carlsbad, California. VF Corp Director of Corporate Communications Paul Mason declined to comment, or confirm the exact number of employees that were let go. The news comes just a few weeks after VF Corp announced job cuts across all brands.
