Avalanche Strikes Jackson Hole Restaurant

Just two days after an in-bounds slide claimed the life of a skier on the mountain, an avalanche smashed into a lift-top restaurant at Jackson Hole. No one was injured by the slide that trapped two and poured into the back door of the Bridger Restaurant at the top of the gondola at around 9:30 yesterday morning.

Jackson Hole’s Aerial Tram Cables are Rising

Critical Milestone Reached Ahead of Time. Cable Pulling to Commence

Teton Village, WY - As the countdown continues, Tram construction stays on schedule for the “Big One’s” return in December, 2008. Commencing next week, Garaventa will start to winch the track and haul cables into place.

“Once the weather improved in mid-June, Garaventa made great progress,” said Jerry Blann, President of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. “We are extremely pleased with what has been accomplished throughout the summer and look forward to seeing the cables put in place over the next month.”

The first of four track ropes should be at the Top Terminal by the end of the week, with all four ropes in place by early September. The haul rope will follow. The initial splicing for the lead ropes to pull the track ropes up the hill was completed by Duke Wire Rope Co, of Wilson, WY today.

All five towers are complete and the new 80 foot clocktower frame on the Lower Terminal has been erected. If you have not visited Teton Village or gone to tramformation.com to get a photo or video update on recent Tram construction, now is the time to do it!

The new Aerial Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will be twice the size of the original, carrying 100 passengers. The sleek, new cabins, and visually inspiring base terminal only add to the faster and more efficient “cable to the sky”.
