California Surf Museum ‘Sidewalk Surfers’ Exhibit Aug. 29

The California Surf Museum is presenting a new exhibit starting August 29 that will highlight the historical roots of skateboarding. The exhibit will be curated by surfer/skater Dale Smith, and will focus on surfboard shapers, manufacturers and professional riders from the 1930s to the 1980s and their skateboard models over the years.

The opening event on Saturday, August 29, will host professional surfers and skaters featured in the exhibit, as well as industry icons and manufacturers, to share stories and sign autographs. For more information, visit www.surfmuseum.org

The California Surf Museum Presents ‘Between the Lines’ April 18

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - During the time of Vietnam two surfers made very different choices… “Between the Lines” is a compelling documentary that puts their respective stories out there.  Written and produced by local surfers Ty Ponder, Scott Bass, and Troy Page, with narration by John Milius, the film will be shown for the first time in Oceanside at the Grace Chapel Theater on Saturday, April 18 at 7pm.

Many of the film’s personalities will be in attendance, and the theater lobby will be filled with a variety of Vietnam photos and memorabilia.  CSM member Bruce Blandy will display the surfboard he crafted in Vietnam.  DVDs of the film will be available for sale, as will a companion book honoring the movie and the first-ever Vietnam veterans’ paddleout (which was held in Oceanside in 2007).

The 5pm VIP Reception ($25, includes film) offers food, beverages, live surf music by the Duo-Tones, and a special opportunity to mingle with cast, crew, and surfing personalities before the movie. General admission tickets are $10. Both are available online and at the museum.  The theater will open to the general public at 6:30pm, with opening ceremonies at 7pm, film at 7:30.  Grace Chapel, 102 N Freeman St., Oceanside.

About 250 surfers and friends gathered for the Inaugural Paddle Out fundraiser with a mix of surfing legends, amazing auction items, great food and music with SuperWave. The event raised more than $30,000, which will be used for interior improvements to the museum.
