After months of whispers and rumors of Insight making a strategic business alliance to strengthen its position in the U.S. market, yesterday the ink dried on a deal between the Australian-born apparel brand and Carlsbad, California-based Black Box Distribution. In a meeting late yesterday afternoon, Black Box Founder Jamie Thomas, CEO Frank Messman, and Insight’s President in the U.S. Jesse Faen sat down with TransWorld Business to discuss the details of the partnership.

Black Box Distribution announced that Frank Messman is its new CEO and partner. Messman, who’s from Denmark and an IASC board member, began his partnership with Black Box in late 2008 when he teamed up with the company to create Black Box Europe, and is making the move to Black Box’s Carlsbad, California HQ.

Originally from Denmark, Frank has held several roles of increasing responsibility in the skateboard
industry during the 20 years since his days as a professional skateboarder. Based in California from
1994-2003 he was an early partner in, and CEO of, Dwindle Distribution and World Industries, he has
also held European General Management positions at Powell Corp, DC Shoes and Sole Technology.
“It’s great to work with someone with as much insight and experience as Frank, especially in these
times. It’s also exciting to have the opportunity to focus my full attention on the team and creative
aspects of the company while Frank takes the lead with the business and finance portions. It truly feels
like a great partnership”, said Jamie Thomas, founder and president.

The first-ever Crossroads retail show will take place at Black Box headquarters in Vista, California on January 21st and 22nd and will include a demo and best trick contest open to the public. The event is an expansion of the open house Black Box typically hosts the day before ASR, and although Crossroads will overlap with the January ASR show, Black Box president Jamie Thomas says the intention was not to become a competitor with ASR.

According to SOURCE: Black Box Distribution has announced it is partnering with Frank Messmann to create Black Box Europe. Originally a Professional Skateboarder, Frank has been a part of the skateboard industry for 20 years.
Originally from Denmark, Frank has held several roles of increasing responsibility in the skateboard industry since his days as a professional skateboarder. Based in the US for many years he was an early partner in, and CEO of, Dwindle Distribution and World Industries, he has also held Executive Management positions at Powell Corporation, DC Shoes and most recently as General Manager of Sole Technology Europe.

Black Box Europe will be headquartered in Amsterdam and will manage all distributor relationships and European activities for Black Box Distribution starting in 2009.
