ASR Lightens Load on Retailers for January Event

Buyers benefit from free parking and big discounts on hotels and restaurants

San Juan Capistrano, CA (December 11, 2008) – In recognition of specialty retail’s integral role in the continued success of the action sports industry, ASR announces a series of efforts to support retail buyers through this challenging economy. ASR is negotiating further discounts on hotel rooms, breaks on services in San Diego and offering up free parking to qualified retailers planning to attend the January event.

All of this comes in addition to providing, as ASR has for 27 years, the leading platform for buyers to conduct months worth of business in just a few days, under one roof. Thousands of buyers including The Buckle, Coastal Edge, Active, ZJ’s, Pharmacy, Zumiez and Jack’s have already pre-registered to preview and buy from summer and fall collections when ASR returns to San Diego this January 22nd-24th.

“This economic situation seems to be hitting Main Street, meaning specialty retailers, hardest right now and as smaller businesses they are also some of the most vulnerable members of our industry,” says Andy Tompkins, ASR Group Show Director. “We’re here along with our exhibiting brands are making a commitment to specialty retailer by continuing to provide a cost-effective buying, learning and networking platform and investing in the retailer with travel discounts to lighten their load in these tough times.”

ASR is working with local hotels, restaurants and the convention center to discount the expenditure retailers face while attending. As an investment in specialty retail, ASR is buying down already discounted hotel room rates for registered buyers for as much as $90, when booked through Travel Planners or ASR Retailer Relations. For those short on time or budget, ASR will for the first time offer retailers a pass for free parking at the convention center. Finally, price breaks throughout downtown San Diego, developed just for ASR attendees, make relaxing after a long day even easier.

“January ASR is important for us to attend because it allows us to see all the board sports vendors in one location, shop for new brands and see overall market direction,” says Justin Harp, Men’s Buyer for The Buckle and one of thousands of buyers planning to do summer, back-to-school and fall buying at ASR January.

ASR joins action sport’s leading brands in its commitment to specialty retail, the future, relationships and the industry as a whole. Go to ASRbiz.com where buyers now register free until January 16th. And while you’re there learn more about the seminars, events and retailer economic stimulus package for ASR January 22nd-24th.
