Academy Snowboard Co. Announces ‘08 Scholarship Winner

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - Academy Snowboard Co. is stoked to announce the recipient for their Foundation scholarship for snowboarders. Michael Baumker, 22,  who attends the University of Utah, was the recipient for the Merit Scholarship which includes $500.00 towards books/tuition, (5) Academy snowboards , $150.00 worth of Academy softgoods and a free subscription to TransWorld Snowboarding Magazine.

“We had a lot of solid applicants and it was tough narrowing it down to just one,”  noted Jeff Baughn, marketing director for Academy Snowboards.  “The applicants had to really work for the scholarship which not only included the normal scholarship criteria, but also required 2 minutes of riding footage, video essays, and industry references. We wanted to make sure that the kids took this serious and we are stoked to help fellow shredders that will hopefully someday give back to our industry after they graduate. We know it’s not a lot of money right now, but as we grow we will be able to give more to the kids which this year we are now going to be able to give out (4) Regional scholarships. Plus 1% of all of our sales go back to the scholarship program so when you buy an Academy, you are supporting fellow riders trying to stay in school.”

Check the website www.academysnowboards.com under the “Projects” section to check the winners bios and video footage and more info on next year’s scholarship. Also, please note that scholarship applications are only available through specialty snow/skate shops.  If you have any other scholarship question please contact scholarship@academysnowboards.com.  Applications for the  09’ Scholarships are due by April 24, 2009.
