    Hmm, seems to me that making the contact surface of the snowboard smaller would make the board slower rather than faster. When surface area is increased, the force created by the rider’s mass is distributed over a larger area, and thus its individual components (if you model it as an integration, over the entire surface area of the snowboard, of discrete force components) are less likely to exceed the friction threshold of the sliding surface.
