The Dew Tour today announced that Ryan Sheckler was voted the winner of the PlayStation® Pro Moment Award from the second stop of the 2009 season, the Skate Open, ISF Skateboarding World Championships, which took place July 24-25 at Boston’s TD Garden. The PlayStation® Pro Moment is awarded to the athlete at each stop of the Dew Tour who landed the best trick of the event, as voted on by fans.
Voting began on Sunday, July 26, the day after competitions ended. Fans could view the videos at allisports.com/playstation or on V CAST Videos from Verizon Wireless in the Sports channel folder and the PlayStation®Network. Voting took place at allisports.com, and fans could also text in their vote by submitting “VOTE” to 3331 from their Verizon Wireless phones.
Voters selected Sheckler for his impressive backside kick flip over the Celtics Gap, a basketball hoop-filled gap that paid tribute to Boston, the contest’s host city. The trick was landed during a run that earned Sheckler the first-ever Skate Park World Champion title and first place at the Dew Tour’s Skate Open.
“I’d like to thank the fans for coming out to the Skate Open and screaming so loud. That totally fires me up,” said Sheckler. “Thanks also for voting for me for the PlayStation® Pro Moment award. I’m stoked.”
Sheckler faced stiff competition from Bucky Lasek for the PlayStation® Pro Moment Award, who finished first in skate vert and was crowned the Skate Vert World Champion. Lasek’s nollie flip stalefish was one of many highlights from his award-winning run.
Sheckler wins $5,000, a PLAYSTATION®3 system and a library of games to reward his skills.
