OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - Tustin, CA, June 23, 2009—Ride BMX, the world’s leading BMX publication, announces its detailed involvement in this year’s Nike 6.0 BMX Open to be held at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois June 26–27 and aired live on NBC Saturday June 27 from 2:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. EST.
The Alliance of Action Sports, Alli, and TransWorld Media have been working to further their relationship beginning with this year’s first Dew Tour stop, the Nike 6.0 BMX Open. The combination of Alli’s top-level events and the core content that Ride BMX brings 365 days a year will bring a new view to this year’s Dew Tour stops.
The Nike 6.0 Open will have a mix of BMX disciplines including BMX vert, BMX park, BMX dirt, and the Nike 6.0 Specialty Street Competition, which will include Ride BMX’s “The Ramp” that was featured in the July issue. The ramp is a mobile unit that the riders can move halfway through the Specialty Competition if the teams see fit. “As demonstrated in the July feature, the ramp can be used in many different situations and can produce some insane riding. We’re excited to see what the teams come up with and how they use the ramp in the specialty competition,”says Ride BMX Editor In Chief Keith Mulligan.
The Street Specialty Competition will consist of nine riders divided into teams of three with one filmer per team. Based on their X Games 14 podium finishes, Garrett Reynolds, Van Homan, and Sean Sexton were named team captains. Each captain hand selected their two other teammates for the contest. Reynolds chose JJ Palmere and fellow Nike 6.0 rider Dennis Enarson, Homan selected Randy Brown and Chase DeHart, and Sexton opted for Aaron Ross and Danny Hickerson. Each team will create a three-minute video. The judges will review and choose a winner that will be announced on Saturday afternoon during the live TV segment.
Each rider will also be competing to become the Standout Rider in the competition. Voting for the Standout Rider will be held on www.RideBMX.com between Saturday June 27 and Wednesday July 1. On that site, viewers will also be able to watch all three videos as well as other content from the competition. The Standout Rider will be announced on Thursday July 2 on RideBMX.com and will be awarded $1,000.
