Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., February 25, 2009…Aspen/Snowmass will once again host the Helly Hansen Colorado Freeride Championships this Friday and Saturday, February 27 – 28, 2009 at Snowmass.  There are still spots remaining in all categories for this event; including both men’s and women’s ski and snowboard fields.

Interested athletes should sign up by Thursday, February 26 by 3 p.m. MST at http://www.aspensnowmass.com/eventregistration/eventreg1.cfm?eventid=2.

This is the eighth annual Colorado Freeride event which draws some of the best freeride skiers and snowboarders in the nation to Snowmass, Colo.

The Helly Hansen Colorado Freeride Championships brings guests a weekend of steeps, cliffs and monster hucks.  Qualifying runs take place Friday, February 27 on Snowmass’ famed Hanging Valley Headwall from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The championships take place on Saturday, February 28 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the Burn Side Cliffs with viewing from Gwyn’s High Alpine, located at the top of the Alpine Springs lift.  Sunday, March 1 is reserved for a weather day if needed.

Competitors this weekend include Frank Shine, Brandon Clabaugh, Jesse Wright and Jennifer Allen.  Past champions include local skiers Kiffor Berg and Ted Davenport as well as two-time U.S. National Freeskiing Champion, Rex Wehrman.

Media credentialing for the event will be from 8 – 8:30 a.m. at the Snowmass Village Mall Ticket Pavilion on both Friday and Saturday.
