As the Gatorade Free Flow Tour rolled into Salt Lake City for it’s final contest the riders tore it up.
Jack Olson won the skate park contest Saturday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals, being held in conjunction with the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge.
Going into the final jam session in second place, Olson, a 14-year-old St. Louis Park, Minn. native, used the 10 minutes to land a number of technical tricks – including a switch 270 front board and a big spin back lip – to clinch the win.
On the very ramp, Clay Kreiner won the skate vert contest Friday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals.
Out of a field of eight emerging amateur vert skaters, 12-year-old Clay Kreiner of Simpsonville, S.C., the youngest of the group, earned the win with the huge height on each of his tricks, including a stalefish into the gap and a 540 to seal the victory. Apopka, Fla.-native Dalton Dern clinched second place with a blunt to fakie and back-to-back 540s. Rounding out the top three was Sammy Schoonderwoerd of Carlsbad, Calif., who landed a huge backside 540 and a McTwist.
While the skaters were busy getting down, Matt Whyatt won the BMX Free Flow park contest Saturday at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge.
Seventeen-year-old Whyatt of Australia beat out of a field of 26 emerging BMX riders, using a 360 tail-whip over the spine, a flair and a double tailwhip to clinch the victory. San Diego, Calif.-native took second place with technical tricks like a double bar air and a bar to tuck no-hander. Mykel Larrin from Racine, Wis. rounded out the top three with a Superman tailwhip and a backflip over the step down.
