Dew Tour Skate Open, ISF Skateboarding World Championships to Receive Live Global Coverage

The Dew Tour’s Skate Open, which has been designated as the ISF Skateboarding World Championships will be broadcast LIVE globally to over 150 million households in 11 languages across 48 countries and four continents. The Skate Open is the second of five events on the 2009 Dew Tour and will be held at Boston’s TD Banknorth Garden, July 24-25.

“We’re thrilled for the International Skateboarding Federation’s Skateboarding World Championships to be incorporated into the Dew Tour’s Boston event this July,” said Gary Ream, President of the ISF. “The Dew Tour has provided us with a tremendous opportunity to bring the Skateboarding World Championships to a world-wide audience allowing us to continue our mission of exposing fans across the world to skateboarding.”

Saturday’s skateboard park finals will be televised LIVE on NBC Sports from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. EST with an additional Sunday broadcast featuring the skateboard vert. Eurosport and Fox Sports Australia will also televise the skateboard park and vert finals LIVE using NBC’s world feed production coverage. The Skate Open, ISF Skateboarding World Championships will have additional broadcasts on USA Network, MTV2, Fuel TV, Universal HD, and Extreme Channel.

“Boston has a great skate community and I’m excited to open the Dew Tour there,” said Paul Rodriguez, Mountain Dew skate park athlete. “This summer is going to be a good contest season with all of the international skaters competing and I am looking forward to skating with my friends as well.”

Fans can also catch LIVE coverage of the Skate Open, ISF Skateboarding World Championships on Verizon Wireless’ V CAST along with highlights and segments on Video On Demand, PlayStation Network, Amazon Video On Demand, Hulu.com and allisports.com, the portal for all things Dew Tour.

The 2009 Dew Tour will feature a BMX (park, dirt and vert) event in Chicago this June followed by the Skate (park and vert) event in Boston. The five-stop tour will continue on to Portland, Ore., Salt Lake City and Orlando featuring BMX, Skateboarding, and Freestyle Motocross.

Entering its fifth year, the Dew Tour is the most watched and attended action sports property in the world. Attendance for the 2008 Dew Tour totaled nearly 275,000 and an average of 49 million viewers tuned in via NBC, USA, MTV and MTV2. The top athletes in the world will take part in this year’s Tour, all competing for the highly coveted Dew Cup that will be awarded in Orlando at season’s end.
