Press Release

Volcom Stone’s first annual Australian Peanut Butter and Rail Jam snowboard event at Mt. Buller, Victoria Saturday July 19 2008.

FREE ENTRY, FREE FOOD and TONS OF FREE GIVEAWAYS ALL DAY

The Peanut Butter and Rail Jam is Volcom’s amateur snowboard contest series which is part of the Let The Kids Ride Free program, a grass roots effort for kids of all ages to express their talent, gain contest experience, have a good time, get some free grinds and walk away with a ton of free product for a day of snowboarding.
Volcom Events manager Robbie Warden explains “the goal of the series is to give something back to the kids. Deviating from the established way snowboard contests are run, we came up with a fresh format. Instead of having three rails in a row, we put them side by side to create a rail zone. This boosts the energy level and fun nature of the contest because everyone is together, riding, hiking, and watching in a big snowboard family group”. There are four divisions; 15 & under, 16 & over, Girls and Open (pro-am). The contest runs in a jam format so there are no scheduled runs. You can hit each of the rails as many times as you want during your 20 minute heat. The judges only care about tricks you pull, so you don’t need to worry about falling.”

Volcom OZ/NZ snow team consisting of Will Jackways, Marcus Wehrle, Quentin Robbins, Jake McCarthy and Billy Hayman will all be there to shred with the kids and rock out all day.

Will Jackways, when asked about the event said “I’ve been involved since the first one at Snowpark, NZ a few years ago, helping out and getting involved judging, commentating, riding and marshalling has been rad”. “Like the whole concept is all about the kids, even though the bigger kids are there too, everyone can get involved, parents as well, all having fun. These days how often can you go to free comp, with free food and good times, stoke kids out with heaps of free stuff, especially Volcom stuff kids love, it’s good for snowboarding.”

Jake McCarthy, from Jindabyne who recently featured in POP Magazine’s film “Two Weeks In” is expecting “Fun, hopefully sun and lot of peanut butter and jam sandwiches.”

The event is absolutely free, a special Volcom PB&RJ Mt. Buller lift ticket is required, entry on a first come first serve basis, and boasts tons of free prizes and Peanut Butter & Jam sandwiches! Also, everyone who enters walks away with a t-shirt and stickers!! See you on the hill!
