Volcom is proud to announce the 2009 Volcom Motocross Team and the launch of the Volcom Motocross Website. “We are super stoked to have been fortunate enough to develop such an elite team. The sport of Motocross is gnarly and these riders put themselves through adversity like no other sport. Im really excited about what the future holds with our involvement in the sport and support to the riders,” said Troy Eckert, VP of Marketing.

“The Volcom Motocross team is a unique group of individuals who each in their own way embody the spirit of Volcom. Myself and many of the people here at Volcom ride and are fans of motocross, we are stoked to officially announce our team, and our support of motocross and the riders,” Troy Powell, Motocross Brand Manager commented.

  • Anonymous Says:

what about a MMA fighter? That’s cool now too

  • Yo Yo Yo! Says:

Wow! Volcom really has hit the shits with this. If having Jocks/Meatheads sporting the brand was not bad, now the 909 IE get officially decorated with Volcom garb. Whats next wake boarders and razor scooterists.

  • Anonymous Says:

He Yo Yo- Like kids in the 909 weren’t wearing Volcom already and brands trying to cross over into diff markets is something new you pin head. It’d be nice to hear some intelligent comments for once. Volcom’s balance sheet is spot-clean which means they are in good shape to invest and grow. Do us a favor and get off the site!

  • toyota san Says:

yea yo yo , you make exit ! look at how good Volcom stone look on that Moto gear , it is a natural fit , good on V-co !

  • toyota san Says:

i am wondering how this affects the Volcom Green program though , maybe veggie oil in those Moto Tanks , food not crude dude !

  • Anonymous Says:

yeah they should invest and grow by doing a energy drink too…..how about a skin for an iphone? How about a energy-Iphone-moto-drink?

  • Harshly Mellow Says:

I like how people “hate” when somebody makes an attempt to grow their business.

It would be exciting to launch a new category within a company that has resources, all the people that chirp up in this piece are probably laid off or hate their job.

We can whine about how lame moto is but that is besides the point. They are a public company and now have to answer to nyc.

Take the bullshit comments to TWsnow.com and let’s try to pretend like those of us who frequent this hater spot can at least hate intelligently.

  • TWRumorMill Says:

Good reporting. Smart business decision. Strong and healthy market that takes the Volcom brand further within the the U.S. and hopefully brings recognition to other brands with it. Good job Troy. Good reporting TWRumorMill.
Everyone shut up and back to the classifieds and Malakye.

  • Layoffs Says:

I’ve surfed my whole life but find this to be really COOL for Volcom. I also think it’s a good thing for Action Sports as a whole. Crossover branding is key moving forward. Sorry old-schoolers, ya gotta expand in order to survive. If you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backwards.

Looking at the big-picture and long term; The newer crossover influence, from a business and branding perspective is working out well for companies like Fox, A-Stars, Jetpilot & MM… Hate all you want - but they are onto something legit and new!!!

  • Sid Says:

It’s called Evolving and Growth!! Why do people hate when a company tries to dive into something that has shown growth? Because they were lagging and worried about their next pay check. Take a chance people! Don’t be scared to pull the trigger on something new. If it’s thought out, it will probably pay off and succeed. God forbid there are comanies that succeed in these tough times.

  • V.CO = SELLOUT Says:

totally weak. Yeah brands want to grow and diversify, I understand that, but they have always been about board sports, why change now? Wakeboarding would be a better fit in their “boardsport lifestyle company” to get behind rather than MX, but whatever. I’m sure a BMX team will be in the works next.

    Just my .02, flame on

  • HB Says:

UNFORT. VOLCOM IS A PUBLICLY HELD COMP., THEY HAVE TO SHOW GROWTH FOR THE STOCKHOLDERS OR THE OWNERS WILL BE REPLACED–THEY HAVE SATURATED THE SURF/SKATE/SNOW MEDIUM SO NOW IT’S ONTO MX, AT LEAST THEY WILL BE DEVELOPING THE PRODUCT THEMSELVES UNLIKE CORPS LIKE BG THAT SLAP A STICKER ON A PRODUCT THAT’S BEEN AROUND FOR 30+ YEARS AND CALL IT <> AND <>.

  • HB Says:

    NEW AND ENVIRO FRIENDLY

  • Smart Says:

For the new breed of brands, it’s “Action Sports” more than just “Board Sports”.

It’s still something you do on your own, to express yourself and your style….. better than some lame ass “Ball Sport” or “Team Sport”….

That was true above, that Fox, Jet pilot and Alpine are into crossing over pretty deep - and it’s friggin’ cool.

    Haters are gay.

  • whatevs Says:

Right on Veeco. Stoked to see you guys finally do this. I heard you have had tents up at the Mammoth MX race, and have been supporting Villapoto for awhile. I have surfed and lived by the beach my whole life and got into MX about 10 years ago. I always thought that if Volcom entered the MX market they would KILL IT. The Volcom Stone and the whole op art vibe you guys have would look so rad on MX gear. Give Fox a run for their money and launch some technical MX gear in the next couple of seasons, please! I would run it for sure. For all the haters (pussies) who say that MX is lame, well you either have never ridden or are just too much of a puss to try it. Yeah I know the whole image of it with the 909/MMA/tough guy vibe is lame, but Volcom could put the punk into MX that it needs. I have been in the ASI for nearly 20 years and would agree that now days it’s all about diversification. Remember that we all have our roots in the So Cal surf culture and lifestyle. Even the MX industry is in So Cal, just inland a bit so they can be close to all the good tracks. Stoked for Veeco.

  • DUN Says:

    VOLCOM IS SO TIRED

  • Smart Says:

    Ha ha…..

  • Anonymous Says:

So many snobby industry “elitists” posting on here. Enough… I agree with a comment made above, these days the umbrella title of “action sports” encompasses much more than just boards. I know many peeps who surf that also enjoy mx as much as they do golf or watching MMA or whatever, seems natural to venture into new categories, and a bold move, for any company to do so in these times. Props to Volcom, good luck.

  • Anonymous Says:

it’s quite the opposite, the industry guys are all for GROWTH….the surfers and the skaters think this is stupid! It’s just basic exploitation and over supply! If they let EVERYONE into the night club it’s no longer cool dude!

  • DenimDan Says:

Haters. As a rep for one of those NEW breed brands I am stoked to see Volcom getting into the MX game. Not that it is new news since Troy E & P have been moto heads for years and Volcom has been backing some of the up and coming groms for some years. The funny thing is that most of the bloggers hating have no clue about moto or even how much the industry is evolving and that you need to keep and open mind to whats happening out there.

Footwear companies like DC, DVS, Etnies, and Osiris have been sponsoring Moto for years and brands like Quik, Hurley and now “out of the closet” Volcom have flowed pro MX riders for years.

Good Luck and lets see what good comes from this.

Oh and don’t be shocked that RVCA sponsors MMA fighters cause that has been happening for a few years as well.

  • Yo Yo Yo! Says:

I would rather not wear threads from a company that I have supported since 93 that now wants to deck out tough guys with gold teeth and neck tats. Thats what Metal Mulisha is for. Is Volcom gonna start making huge baggy shorts so I can pull my socks up to my knees to make pants? Hats with straight brims that I can wear sideways with spikes in them?

  • ZJ's BJ's Says:

Now that is a funny post.

  • Bobby Myass Says:

THAT’S what i been tellin’ Allyance i want my signature stuff to be saying ! Right on Homeslice !

  • creedler91 Says:

    wimps
could never hang onto a 450 for the main event

  • creedler91 Says:

here’s a guy who is in the know! spot on, denimdan

  • KTM 340 Says:

Yo Yo Yo have you even seen a real motocross race or someone who races motocross. The guys that race motocross are a whole different breed when you compare them to the Metal Mulisha free style guys. The free style guys are are the ones you see with gold teeth and baggy shorts. If you’ve really supported Volcom since 93 I would hope you realized that they made straight brimmed hats years ago. Now next time you feel like opening your mouth maybe know what your talking about.
