Ever sitting in class, at your desk, or at work and wish you could be watching the North Shore go off? Well now you can! Coming off other successful iPhone applications Vans has teamed up with the Triple Crown of Surfing to bring you live video, real-time scoring, and other features to keep you entertained while on your phone. While many details are still in the works the Vans  Triple Crown of Surfing will be the first of a kind mobile webcast application so you don’t have to miss anything.  Vans released this statement

On the heels of the iPhone game Vans Sk8: Pool Service and Vans’ mobile web site (WAP) that recently went live, Vans announces another way in which boardsports enthusiasts can get their fix while on the move.  For the first time ever, surf fans from around the globe will watch the big waves from the North Shore at the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing this winter with an application for iPhone available at triplecrownofsurfing.com.  Delivering live contest webcasts, dynamic, real-time scoring and video-on-demand among its many features, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing app is the first available for an Association of Surfing Professionals event and marks the first live mobile webcast application for any action sports event.

seems like "flavor of the day" apps that are tied to a specific event end up fading away like micro-sites. could this app have life after the Vans Triple Crown? the live webcast on the handheld sounds very interesting, we'll have to see if they work out the bugs. seems like i'm always having problems viewing the webcasts from my Mac (using both Safari or Firefox).
