More than 30 years after its original release, Vans is bringing back a deluxe edition of its documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys, which was directed by skateboard legend Stacy Peralta, narrated by Sean Penn, and features members of the original Zephyr Skateboard Team including Jay Adams, Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta, and their mentors Jeff Ho and Skip Engblom. “Cypress, CA (November 3rd, 2009) - In conjunction with Sony Pictures Classics, Vans announces the release of a new deluxe edition of Dogtown and Z-Boys, the famed documentary chronicling the early 70s birth of modern skateboarding in Southern California. Directed by skateboard legend Stacy Peralta, and narrated by Sean Penn, Dogtown and Z-Boys is the story of a group of gifted kids who single-handedly created a lifestyle that spread infectiously and become a worldwide cultural phenomenon. Over 30 years later, Vans celebrates the skate pioneers with a re-release of the award winning documentary that features members of the original Zephyr Skateboard Team including Jay Adams, Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta and their mentors Jeff Ho and Skip Engblom.
The deluxe edition, which will be available exclusively at Vans retail stores and at shop.vans.com this November, includes an all-new special features disc with footage of legendary riders Tony Alva, Bucky Lasek, Chris Miller, Rune Glifberg and more, as well as interviews with Alva and Lasek.
Along with the DVD, a special collection of limited edition Dogtown-related apparel and footwear will be released including two hoodies, hats and a tee featuring the infamous Dogtown cross and graffiti art from the streets of Venice Beach. In a nod to the original Zephyr rippers, two Vans Era styles in heritage-inspired colorways from the mid 70s will also be available. "More than 30 years after its original release………………"? A bit of an edit needs to be done.
The original release of Dogtown and Z-Boys movie was 2001, not 30 years ago. The Vans press release could easily have caused the error because of the way Vans worded it.
