Although Art of Flight was released less than three months ago, its global impact has rippled across more outlets than just snowboarding magazines. National Geographic nominated Travis Rice for the “Adventurer of the Year” award, along with fellow action-sports surf diva, Carissa Moore. You’re able to vote for your favorite adventurer, every day, through January 18, 2012. National Geographic will announce the People’s Choice Adventurer of the Year in February 2012.
The magazine sat down with all the nominated athletes, including the man himself, Travis Rice. Rice discussed the inspiring take-aways from filming Art Of Flight. Arguably, the most important concept was told in the film’s opening narration: “Experiencing the world through endless secondhand information isn’t enough,” says Rice. “If we want authenticity we have to initiate it. Rice goes on to say in the interview, “You learn a lot about yourself when you are in the elements. As a whole, collectively, we are living at a higher frequency than our parents did. There needs to be balance. We succeed when our film motivates someone.”
