Shop teams will get the chance to go head-to-head in Orlando next January at Bangers 4 Bucks, a skate contest created by Martin Ramos of Kona Skate Park.

Here’s the press release:

Atlanta, GA, October 21, 2009 – Surf Expo announced its next great skate event today – Bangers for Bucks. The retail shop contest, created by Martin Ramos of Kona Skate Park, will be brought to Surf Expo and held on a one-of-a-kind Team Pain course. Ten skate shop teams will compete for $15,000 in cash and prizes, including instant cash for the skaters and thousands of dollars in merchandise credit for their store.
Teams can win a spot in the contest by posting a video on surfexpo.com beginning today. Eastern Skate Supply stepped up to sponsor the event with Vans in as well, and several other sponsors will make this the most lucrative contest of its kind in the world.
According to Surf Expo Show Director Roy Turner: “Adding a merchandise credit gives back to the shops who sponsor the teams. What better way to bring a skate contest to Surf Expo than to hold an event made up of retailers and the skaters they sponsor? At Surf Expo our goal is to bring retailers and manufacturers together for business, networking and marketing opportunities—our new contest format does just that.”

The Selection Process

Ten teams representing skate retail shops will be selected to compete. Three of these teams will be selected by Surf Expo based on industry recommendations and consistent support shown for the skate industry. Four teams will be selected by skate media representatives from FTK Magazine and Focus Magazine.

Finally the contest will include three “Fan Favorite” shops, who will submit their YouTube video to surfexpo.com. The three teams that receive the most votes will win an invitation to compete.

Invited Shops will receive free accommodations in Orlando, media exposure, coverage on surfexpo.com, several planned catered events, an opportunity to take home thousands of dollars in cash and prizes for themselves and their shop, and access to influential leaders of the skate industry.

Teams consist of three to five skaters and one Team Manager. One pro per team is allowed.

Teams must represent an established skate shop.
