Known as The Grandmaster of 108, Andy Kessler was a New York City skate legend. Not only was Kessler an amazing skater, he was also an advocate of skateboarding and its culture in New York. NBC New York reports that Kessler “died in Montauk after an allergic reaction to a hornet sting on Monday.” The article also recognizes that “In the late 70’s and early 80’s, he and a crew of cronies basically created the New York City skateboarding scene that plays itself out daily around the city. And they did it without winning any of the acclaim of their California peers who have been immortalized in movies like “Dogtown and Z-Boys.”
A sunset paddle is being organized in Kessler’s honor for this Friday in Montauk.
The TransWorld Business family would like to express our condolences to his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
