Rome Snowboards’ Pro Team Updates

picture-34Rome has apparently been forced by the current economic tight times to part ways with riders Max Legend, Yan Dofin, and Marius Otterstad. Team Manager and the man behind Kids On Shred Productions John Cavan was recently quoted on shayboarder.com explaining the cuts:

“Rome like every other brand in snowboarding has been deeply effected by these crazy economic times and although the number of positions at our company that have fallen victim to these times may not be as big as say a Burton or a DC when you factor in the size of our brand it’s just as tough. That goes for the team to. The team is an extension of our marketing department and every department at Rome felt this crunch. We had to make really hard decisions that unfortunately really didn’t come down to performance but had a lot to do with where their contracts fell in the budget. I have gone to war with all of these guys for two movies, almost any of our riders would do anything thing I asked them to do, so it’s been really hard. A short answer to a question I could go on and on about is yes we had to make some big changes to our team, Max (Legend), Yan (Dofin), and Marius (Otterstad) are all no longer part of the pro team, it’s sucked more than any words I can type here can describe, but it’s something that in the end had to happen. We’re definitely regrouping and moving forward from here. I’ll do anything for those three and it’s been a hard pill to swallow.”

Rome’s current pro roster includes Bjorn Leines, Eiki Helgason, LNP, MFR, Silvia Mittermuller, Will Lavigne, John Foy, Greg Bokenkamp, Johnny Lazzereschi, Stale Sandbech, and Johnnie Paxson.

Wow, you'd think they would be in a better position with Jake backing them……

  • Tim Says:

Yeah I for one disagree with the choices of who he cut but like he said, it was the contracts? Don't really get it. Why can't you leave them on your pro team, back them with gear, etc…Why wouldnt he just even out the whole teams budget and spread it evenly. There has got to be more to it.

  • Ashblaster Says:

burton backs them? like i thought a bunch of dudes left burton and started rome on their own

  • Head Honcho Says:

The rumors floating around Vegas last year was that Rome was secretly under the Burton umbrella after they ran out of money the year before.
