Rob Machado’s “Drifter,” a film about the professional surfer’s travels, is headed to La Paloma Theater in Encinitas, California Wednesday, November 4, and The Montalban in LA Thursday, November 5, to kick off its domestic tour, spanning eleven venues nationwide. The premieres will also feature Q&A after the film with Machado and Taylor Steele. For those who haven’t secured tickets, the film will also be web cast live during the LA premiere starting at 8 p.m. P.T. at Hurley.com/live. Read the press release for more information and the film’s tour schedule:

“After receiving rave reviews in Japan, Hawaii and Australia, Rob Machado’s definitive surf travel film, The Drifter, will return home for a domestic tour starting this week. The Drifter Tour, which begins November 4 in Encinitas and ends November 19 in Laguna Beach, will cover 11 venues along the West and East Coasts, along with a few private screenings in between. “It’s been a fun ride so far,” says Machado of his premiere tour abroad. “Maybe not quite as fun as some of the waves I rode in the film. But I’ve really enjoyed showing the last two years of my life to people.”

For all those who can’t attend or want to enjoy the movie from the comfort of their own laptop, there will be a live stream of the November 5 premiere at The Montalbán in Los Angeles. Like every tour venue, this will include an acoustic set with Machado and Jon Swift, the full-length feature film and a post-movie Q&A with Machado and Taylor Steele. The live webcast begins at 8 p.m. this Thursday. Log on to www.hurley.com/live to watch it all unfold.

The Drifter Tour also coincides with the November 3 launch of the special edition DVD, which includes a booklet and 18-minute bonus surf segment. Go to www.thedriftermovie.com or core surf shops to get your copy.

Directed by Taylor Steele and produced by Hurley and Warner Bros. Records, The Drifter starts in Bali, where Machado is looking for life’s deeper meaning. That surf trip ends up taking him on a soul-searching journey where he eventually finds himself in Indonesia’s outermost reaches with nothing but a surfboard, his journal and a tent. Machado’s conclusion after scoring more perfect waves than any surfer could ever wish for? There’s always a new dream to chase.

About Rob Machado:

Machado is one of the greatest surfers of all time. Growing up in Cardiff By The Sea, California, young Machado quickly rose up the national amateur ranks and found a good sparring partner in nine-time world champ, Kelly Slater. Those battles peaked in 1995, when they competed for a world title at the Banzai Pipeline. Kelly won the heat, but Machado’s “high-five” as he exited a gaping, 8-foot tube is regarded as one of the greatest moments in professional surfing history. Machado followed that world-runner-up finish with a Pipe Masters victory in 2000. Since then, Machado has taken his foot off the competitive gas and focused more on surfing the world’s best waves on his own terms. Part of those terms involves giving back in every way he can, including his own non-profit, the Rob Machado Foundation a California 501c3 created to fund environmental after school programs to help children understand their contribution to a healthy earth and his Hurley H20 campaign (promoting potable water awareness around the world). These efforts have been recognized by a growing list of organizations, his most recent being the 2009 Waterman of the Year Award by the Surf Industry Manufacturer’s Association. (SIMA)”
