The new Nike 6.0, Hurley and Converse concept store at 225 Forest in Laguna Beach had a grand opening party and industry tour last Thursday and Friday, July 2-3, and the Biz Network has all the details.
Agenda’s Aaron Levant was up in Laguna on Thursday for the festivities and came away with some great party photos, including shots of the Nike ID studio on the shop’s second floor allowing people to customize their own T-shirts and boardshorts. He also had a chance to catch up with RVCA’s PM Tenore and Hurley’s Paul Gomez.
TW Business Publisher Rob Campbell was on the scene at 225 Forest on Friday, talking with Hurley President Bob Hurley, CEO Roger Wyett and VP of Branding/Marketing Adrian Nyman. He also got a first hand demonstration of the custom sublimation process from Mike Voeghtlin, the GM of 225 Forest. Take a look:

I wouldn't say nike is brillant. It more like bully's. They shove general release stock down your throat, with the hopes of getting a quick selling quickstrike. Before you know it they have taken over your skate wall. They sure didn't have great success on there first skate launch. The second launch is a sneaker head thing which has faded and is now watered down by 6.0

what happen to core shops ? name one?

core shops are all but dead. look at all brands. It started with the "board riders rooms". every big boy is launching their own stores to keep up. Don't be surprised to see the smallest of brands trying to open their own stores just to get the extra margin.

The second Nike skate shoe launch was Savior, but I understand how easily it is to forget about Savior. Savior was on their way out a couple months after they started. They had such trouble selling shoes, they ended up giving them away at skateparks. I almost forgot about Hurley shoes too. That was a disaster too. Bob Burnquist dropped eS' to ride for Hurley Shoes.

what a completely useless and uninformative article (if you can call it that). This is more of a calendar date than an article. Oh wait its not an article at all but an easy hook.
The nike business model is very predatory and strikes a chord in this close knit (albeit not inoccent) industry and simply writing the word nike will induce many people to post comments like these which in turn gets people to twitter it myface it and wtf ever else it, all thinking they are coming together to discuss something new. When in reality its the same old issue over and over never saying anything new.
BUT WAIT– all these comments do something…yes, they drive more and more traffic to TransWorld's websites and that in turn increases ad revenues for TransWorld… not all is lost! We who post comments here are getting exploited in the exact manner that we are detesting, yet we don't even know it!
Kudos TW for, dare i say it, outdoing nike in reaping profits from unsuspecting consumers!
PS Nike pioneered sweatshop labor and grows by buying up companies who's consumer base chooses not to contribute to nike's business practices. Not by having the best product and being innovative. If they were innovative they wouldn't buy up so called stoner run companies for the established consumer base, they would establish their own. And in high end fashion mkts elitism is king, why the hell else would you pay $50 for a tshirt that cost less than $1 to make? simply cos it has the right 4 letters on it?
I doubt TW will allow this post to remain up for very long… unless they know the statistics that after a certain amount of days people no longer read these blogs and this comment will simply become lost in cyberspace.

Look at how all the manufactures are all going to retail, how cute. Yes its just the evolution of retail. So now smart guys you have your own stores and sell direct. Now you have rent, insurance, employees. a very large increase in overhead. So it goes good for a bit, initial pop. SO NOWWW. You lose all your other vendors that you supply because they are NOT going to compete with you directly. So when your name falls out of favor because you dont have anyone pumping up your name, just talking it down because you sold out. And you have NO ONE BUT YOURSELF to sell to. YOUR GONE. SRY GOOD GAME. CYA IN THE SHOWERS
