James William Martin

After spending three nights out in the Mt. Seymour elements, Ontario rider James Martin was found safe, but shaken and a bit frozen.

According to the Canadian Press:

A snowboarder who spent three days lost on a cold, snowy mountain near Vancouver says he tried to stay hopeful as he searched for a way to safety, but knew he wouldn’t have survived much longer if he hadn’t been found when he was.

James Martin, originally from Orillia, Ont., was recovering in hospital Thursday with frostbite, one day after he was found on Mount Seymour in North Vancouver.

Martin became lost while snowboarding Sunday and spent the next three days seeking shelter and trudging through deep snow looking for a way out.

He said he never gave up hope, but admitted his optimism was waning as the days wore on.

“I thought I was going to get out every single night that I was in there. I thought, as I’m getting closer to dark, `Well, it’s just around the corner,’ but it never was,” he told CTV News from his hospital bed in Vancouver.
