Macy’s Eliminates 7,000 Jobs, Regional Divisions

Macy’s announced layoffs/ restructuring today.  Approximately 7,000 positions are being eliminated from the company’s workforce in offices, stores, and other facilities.  The staff reduction represents about four-percent of the company’s total current workforce of about 180,000 positions.

The stores will now be divided into nearly 70 districts with ten to twelve stores each in an attempt to more closely monitor local consumer behaviors.

This results in the elimination of Macy’s West. Approximately 1,400 employees at Macy’s West offices in San Francisco were affected.
