Louie Lopez Wins His First Skate Street Dew Cup At Dew Tour T0yota City Championships
Garrett Reynolds and Kyle Baldock Take BMX Street and Dirt Dew Cups
San Francisco – Oct 11, 2013 – The Dew Tour Toyota City Championships took over San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza this afternoon with Skate Street, BMX Street and BMX Dirt Finals. After dominating the street course throughout the weekend, Louie Lopez took the Dew Cup in his first year competing at the Dew Tour. He landed a frontside bluntside 270, varial heelflip and half cab flip down the Hubba Hideout stairs and frontside 360 over the hip.
“This is insane,” said Lopez following his win. “This feels fake right now. It’s crazy. Having a contest in San Francisco is really cool.”
Garrett Reynolds won his second consecutive BMX Street Dew Cup this afternoon, in a tight competition that saw the best talent in BMX on a course that replicated historic San Francisco spots. Reynolds landed a 180 to fakie whip off the manual pad and a double truckdriver down the nine stair that brought the crowd to their feet to barely edge out second place finisher Chad Kerley.
“It feels really good to win two years in a row. The tech riding is hard to be consistent with, so if anyone gets going, they can win. I’m psyched on a couple things I did today and I had a good time,” said Reynolds. “Landing something like the double truck is the feeling that keeps me riding.”
The BMX Dirt Final wrapped up the day in Civic Center Plaza, with Kyle Baldock pulling out all the stops to take the win. He landed a trick never before seen in a competition final – a front flip barspin tuck no-hander – on the last jump of his last run. His runs included a 360 flip, front flip tailwhip and 360 double downside whip.
“Last year, I was a bit eager, trying to get it done,” said Baldock. “I went out too strong. This year, I took my time, watched people, and tried to get in a good position. It’s amazing to come back to San Francisco. I love this place.”
The Dew Tour Toyota City Championships continues tomorrow with BMX and Skate Streetstyle on Harrison St. and the FMX Triple Threat contest in front of City Hall. Dew Tour Community Day invites local fans to enjoy the interactive Dew Tour Experience and skate the Dew Tour street course.
