Iconic Surfer Joel Tudor to Endorse Vans Apparel

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - Cypress, CA (September 4, 2008) – Vans today announced that Joel Tudor, widely respected as one of surfing’s most stylish and talented individuals, has expanded his more than 13-year relationship with the original action sports brand to include apparel in addition to the footwear he already supports. Tudor, at 32 a multiple World Champion, influential surf culture magnate and industry entrepreneur, will work directly with Vans apparel developers and designers to influence a collection that will expand Vans’ product offerings.

“Joel and Vans have always been and always will be a perfect fit. Joel has throughout his career expressed everything we consider Vans to be: authentic, original, individualistic and a dedicated to non-conformity,” says Vans Marketing VP Doug Palladini. “As we grow what we are known for beyond footwear and into apparel and accessories, Joel’s sense of style is just what we want to represent us.”

The Joel Tudor-influenced line, which will break as part of Vans Apparel’s Fall ’09 assortment and be in full swing for Spring ’10, features a comprehensive offering including: board and walk shorts, wovens, fleece, jackets, pants, t-shirts, and accessories. Tudor’s uncanny ability to surf any wave on any board will be reflected in the collection’s eclectic mix. “We have so much Vans style from the past 40-plus years we can pull from: I have a lot of ideas for Vans apparel,” says Tudor. “Vans is such a long-standing part of my career that this can be organic and makes total sense.”

Tudor joins Vans Apparel signature skateboarders Anthony Van Engelen and Johnny Layton and top women’s surfer and WCT competitor Karina Petroni on the apparel team.
