Insight, RAEN and Monster Children will host “Fix The Shadows,” a darkroom photographic experience by Warren Smith & Nick LaVecchia with Craig Anderson, Dustin Miller, Dion Agius, Brian Nevins, and Cole Barash. The event takes place for one night only, Friday, December 21, in Portland, Maine. Here’s the details:
Looking for a much needed sabbatical, wandering artist and surfer Warren Smith came to the raw coast of Maine ~ his only goal was to sink into a personal photographic experience and find some down time.
Collaborating with friend and York, Maine-based photographer Nick LaVecchia, the two converted a vacant garage on the coast to a makeshift darkroom of sorts. For the past three months their collective days were filled with the beauty and stillness of Fall in Maine, listening to the quiet, surfing cold waves, skating some backyard barn ramps, and inviting a few friends to come along and make a mess of the garage with them.
Inspired by an unplanned 3-month search for quiet, Fix the Shadows has evolved into an eerie and unfiltered
living documentary project and traveling exhibit showcasing both the aesthetic and process of a handful of fellow artists, surfers, and photographers sharing ideas and cameras, cold empty waves ~ and making pictures.
“I just wanted to work on some photography and see a few friends along the way to share in the stillness of a quiet place in Maine. So I built a darkroom, invited some friends and set out to document everything and anything that came our way each day,” – Warren Smith.
Fix The Shadows opens its tour in Portland, Maine on December 21st with an Artists Reception and live auction of select prints with all proceeds going to Waves 4 Water.org // http://www.wavesforwater.org.
More tour stops are currently being scheduled for Los Angeles and Australia.
