EuroSIMA, the European Boardsports Industry Manufacturers Association launched a new competition this year to award industry members leading the charge on technological and environmental innovations, the EuroSIMA Innovation Award and a Call for Innovation Projects.
A jury composed of professionals, experts and competition partners met last month to study applications and select the winners. And the winners are…
EUROSIMA INNOVATION AWARD
The 2009 EuroSIMA Innovation Award winner is the brand FCS, which received 5000 euros for its Green Flex project. FCS uses post-consumer material to develop a new fin material that maintains the strength and flex properties equal to the classic fins. The EuroSIMA Innovation Award is open to EuroSIMA members only, and aims at rewarding finished and innovative projects.
EUROSIMA CALL FOR INNOVATION PROJECTS
The EuroSIMA call for innovation projects awarded two initiatives: a technological innovation project and an ecological innovation project. The call for projects is open to all, and its objective is to assist innovative projects in their development.
• Winning technological innovation project.
The combination of skills between Stark Surfboards and Atua.Cores has been profitable since it has enabled both companies to work together to improve the technical properties of surfboard foams.
The result of this collaboration is the birth of the “Pheno EPS foam” technology which consists in replacing the central stringer of surfboard foams by carbon stringers giving the surfboard greater flexibility and dynamism.
• Winning ecological innovation project.
The eco-friendly GreenFIX surfwax is a petrochemically-free product developed from natural and renewable resources.
Beyond its environmental qualities, which not alter the performance of the wax, the innovative nature of this product lies in its resistance to heat. Indeed, the melting point of the GreenFIX wax is above 60 °C - unmatched resistance in this field.
Moreover, the shape of the wax bar, in form of a comb for easy application, makes it an ideal accessory for surfers.
Both projects received a grant of 5,000 euros and will receive assistance to help them in the development of their projects.
