Press Release

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - LAKEWOOD, N.J. (July 1, 2008) ? Ergophobia, a surf and skate apparel brand for men and women, is pleased to announce its partnership with Transworld SURF magazine in hosting the online surf video contest “America’s Next Top Grommet.” The contest, a spoof off of the ever-popular TV show “America’s Next Top Model,” will give up-and-coming surfers the chance to score a paid sponsorship with Ergophobia.

The contest will open to the public on August 1, 2008 and will close on January 31, 2009. Each month, contestants aged 17 years or younger and sans an apparel sponsor, will have the chance to enter the contest by uploading original videos that include surf and lifestyle footage. The videos, at least 60 seconds in length, will then be reviewed by a panel of industry insiders from Transworld SURF and Ergophobia. The entries will be judged on performance, difficulty of maneuvers, style, creativity and flare.

“We’re stoked to bring this concept to the table and have Transworld back it,” says Ergophobia Vice President, Pete DiSpirito. “Of course the level of surfing is most important, but we really want kids to focus on the creative aspect of the videos, too. This gives the entrants a chance to showcase not only their surf talent, but also their creativity, style and personality. Three very important things when choosing team riders.”

Each month, one finalist will receive an assortment of apparel from Ergophobia, a one-year free subscription to Transworld SURF and he or she will then secure one of the six spots to win the grand prize and the title of “America’s Next Top Grommet.” The grand prize winner will win a one-year Ergophobia contract that includes a travel fund, contest entry fees and photo incentive. The grand prize winner will be announced on TransworldSURF.com and in the magazine.

  • East Coast Local Says:

Ergayphobia is from around my home town. Not many locals like them because they are cocky as hell and looked down on other start up clothing companies. They don’t have an inspirational story because Daddy gave them a MILLION DOLLARS. You never see them mention anything about it… They just buy their customers and lack any customer loyalty from their own locals…

Plus, it’s a complete contradiction… They’re clothing is about the fear of Corporate America…then why are they trying to be one? Their brand means fear of work and they mock people who do because they don’t know what hard work means?! Basically…this company sucks!

  • East Coast Legend Says:

Broh- You missed the hate train awhile ago. Did you not get the memo… everyone is on board with ergo now. Your an idiot. From what I see and know, those guys are rad and do nothing but sick shit for the industry… even if they have a million dollars or what ever the case is. At least they are building a rad company and giving back to the East Coast. Not to mention, those guys work there fucking asses off. They are the most generous down to earth guys around so you have no fucking clue what your talking about… educate yourself dick bag!

  • samoflange Says:

yeah that is the gayest thing I ever heard. The bottom half of dick bags paragraph makes no sense at all. They help sponsor everything in our area and give tons to the local surf and skate scene. Remember to get your whole head infront of the shotgun.
