As the Orlando stop of the Dew Tour wrapped up, so did the 2009 Dew Tour. Walking away as the 2009 Dew Tour Champions were Jamie Bestwick (BMX Vert), Garrett Reynolds (BMX Park), Ryan Nyquist (BMX dirt), Chris Cole (Skate Park), and Bucky Lasek (Skate Very). Check out the final Dew Cup results and full recap of the Orlando PlayStation Pro:

Skate Park Results

It was a day of firsts the Dew Tour’s PlayStationÒ Pro. After landing on the podium at each stop this season, Philadelphia-native and Dew Tour rookie Chris Cole won the skate park final for the first time, making him the 2009 Dew Cup champion in skate park. Brandon Dosch of Lake Orion, Mich. earned the top spot of the podium at the BMX dirt final for the first time in his career, but Ryan Nyquist of San Jose, Calif. was crowned the overall Dew Cup champion in BMX dirt, making him the first ever two-time Dew Cup champion in the BMX dirt discipline.

Proving his consistency, Cole landed on the podium at each stop of the Dew Tour this season, but he made it to the top for the first time at the PlayStationÒ Pro with his first-place finish in the skate park final. His winning score of 88.48 was earned by landing tricks like a back 270 to backboard, a back 180 nose grind, and always showing his creative side, a finger flip to tip-toe on the rail as a dropout.

The final jam was narrowed down from 12 skaters to six; Cole, Paul Rodriguez, Greg Lutzka, Milton Martinez, Danilo do Rosario and Chaz Ortiz. The jam was filled with technical tricks and big manuals, and Tarzana, Calif.-native Rodriguez landed a switch kickflip down the stair step and a switch flip boardslide to give him a second-place score of 87.90 and third place overall in season rankings. Greg Lutzka, of Milwaukee, Wis., rounded out the podium in third with a score of 86.75, giving him sixth overall in the season rankings.

“Winning the Dew Cup is awesome, and the experience of going to each stop and skating with all of these guys was really cool,” said Cole.

BMX Dirt Results

Riders gave it their all at the BMX dirt final, but Dosch came out on top, landing multiple 360 double whips and a 360 downside whip to earn him a final score of 92.87. Dosch’s consistency throughout the season earned him second place overall in Dew Tour season rankings.

“It just feels amazing to finally win, and the difference with this final was that I had that feeling in my gut – just a lot of pressure – with Nyquist being on top and me being so close behind,” said Dosch. “My goal was just to win one stop this year, so I just kept telling myself to stay positive and remember why I ride my bike. I almost can’t believe it.”

The win didn’t come easily for Dosch, as Moreno Valley, Calif.-native TJ Ellis landed equally flawless 360 double whips and a no-handed front flip straight to a no-handed back flip to earn a second-place score of 92.00. Rob Darden of Greenville, N.C. rounded out the podium in third with a score of 90.69.

However, the real win of the year went to a rider that didn’t even land on the podium at the BMX dirt final. Nyquist was crowned the BMX dirt Dew Cup champion for the second time in his career – the first being in 2007 – for his consistency throughout the season, aided by pair of wins at the Wendy’s Invitational and the Toyota Challenge. Nyquist placed fifth at the PlayStationÒ Pro dirt final, giving him enough points to win the entire Dew Tour season and edging out Dosch by a mere six points.

“It feels really good to be the first two-time BMX dirt Dew Cup champion. It’s not exactly the way I would have liked to win it, but I’ll take it anyway, “ said Nyquist. “I rode really sloppy tonight, not in my true form at all, so I’m just really happy I could at least pull it off. I couldn’t be more stoked.”

Immediately following the BMX dirt final, Transworld RideBMX hosted a BMX dirt Best Trick Contest presented by Dan’s Comp. Taking place on the steps of Amway Arena, Anthony Napolitan took home the Best Trick title and $5,000 for his 360 double truck to late tailwhip.

Skate Vert

Bucky Lasek of Baltimore, Md. won the skate vert finals and secured the Dew Cup in the closest race for the Cup in Dew Tour history. Fresh off the Dew Cup win in BMX dirt, Ryan Nyquist of San Jose, Calif. won the BMX park finals at the PlayStationÒ Pro, while Toms River, N.J.-native Garrett Reynolds was crowned the overall Dew Cup champion in BMX park for the 2009 season.

Heading into Orlando, Lasek, Canada’s Pierre-Luc Gagnon and Boston-native Andy Macdonald were separated by a mere six points in the overall Tour standings. It was anyone‘s game heading into the finals, and the last five standing in the final jam session were the who’s who in skate vert – Lasek, Gagnon, Macdonald, and Brazilian shredders Sandro Dias and Bob Burnquist.

Lasek pulled into the lead in his last run with his switch 360 backlip, switch 540 and nollie flip stalefish to earn him a first-place score of 90.88. Macdonald followed with a score of 85.63 and Dias came in a close third with his crowd-pleasing varials, like a body varial 540 to tuck knee, earning him a final score of 84.74.

Lasek three-peats as Dew Cup champion, having won in 2005 and again in 2006.

“I just want to thank all of the fans for supporting me. I was walking around and meeting everyone, and it was a really uplifting experience, so thanks to Orlando for all of their support,” said Lasek. “Thanks to all of the fans who follow the Dew Tour, and I’ll be ready for next year.”

BMX Park

All eyes were on Tour points leader Reynolds and second-place Dave Mirra heading into the BMX park finals, but in a nail-biting twist of events neither riders made it on the podium. Mirra fell on his first run attempting his signature bunny hop backflip drop-in, however he redeemed himself and landed it in the second run, following it up with 720, placing him in fourth in the finals and second overall in the season-long rankings. Reynolds’ top run included a truckdriver to tabletop and a barspin 540, landing him in seventh place. However the run was enough to earn him his first ever Dew Cup.

“I’m psyched to win the Dew Cup, and it feels awesome,” said Reynolds. “I definitely didn’t expect to do it this way with my sketchy run tonight, but it’s awesome.”

Nyquist surprised everyone with his second run, which jumped him from tenth place to first and included a wall-ride to double barspin and a 360 double truck, earning a total score of 94.38. Venezuela’s Daniel Dhers threw out a corked 720 whip and a 720 over the box to earn him a second-place score of 93.75.  Mark Webb, hailing from Great Britain, landed on the podium for the first time in his Dew Tour career and finished in third with a score of 92.38.

“I feel really good. This is the perfect way to end the season. It’s a really great feeling – two Dew Cups in dirt and a win in Orlando for park,” said Nyquist. “I really wanted to end the year on a good note, and I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

BMX Vert

Jamie Bestwick took first. In doing so, he won the Dew Cup in Vert for the fifth year in a row, and became the first person to sweep all the stops in a season. It’s almost pointless to go into great detail describing his style, his arsenal of wild maneuvers, and how high he can blast. You really have to see him live and in-person. It’s pure spectacle.

Concentrating on his first run, Jamie fired out an Indian air seat grab, floated a couple extended tuck no-handers, connected downside whips higher than some people can air, and somehow managed to pull off an alley-oop downside whip over the channel. Jamie floated the downside whip so far that it almost ejected him off the ramp after landing. But with a little bit of finesse, he took control and remained afloat to finish his run with a foot-plant flair. There was no need for him to put too much effort into his second run–his first sealed the deal.

Coming in second today was Chad Kagy, who also took over second place in the overall standings. The guy is a variation wizard. He conjured up endless wild moves beginning with a super-man seat grab over the channel, perfect flair-whips, absolutely amazing inverts, x-up nac-nacs, and the virtually impossible superman seat-grab bar spin. For some riders, this variation would take years to attempt. Kagy, however, does it every time. His first run was a charm. His second run, not so much after a double whip gone awry. With 326 total points for the year, Kagy just barely edged above Steven McCann in the overall standings, who came in third with 322 points.
