BURLINGTON, VT. and WALNUT, CALIF. (June 5, 2008) — Burton today announced that it has established a new distribution center in Southern California with Menlo Worldwide Logistics, a leading logistics and supply chain management specialist. Based in Walnut, California, the new distribution center will enable Burton to expand product availability and provide faster fulfillment of orders for its retail customers on the West Coast.
Beginning next month, the new facility will handle the distribution of ANON sunglasses, Analog, Gravis, Burton Apparel and Channel Islands non-surfboard product lines. Burton will continue to distribute ANON goggles, Burton outerwear and snowboards from their existing North American and Asian Distribution Centers.
By selecting Menlo to provide the warehouse facility and distribution support services, Burton will be able to fulfill product needs for West Coast retailers as quickly as possible through more cost-effective transportation and shorter delivery times.
Burton is also taking advantage of a new program recently launched by Menlo to help companies expand and grow quickly in new markets. The program offers customers strategically located warehouse space, as well as shared personnel, systems and operations support that are leveraged in a multi-client environment. Through this program, customers can establish distribution operations quickly, and as business grows, scale them at a competitive cost.
“Menlo has extensive experience with managing distribution for high-value, seasonal-demand product lines similar to those offered by Burton and its family of brands,” said Joseph Dagnese, vice president, consumer products group, Menlo Worldwide Logistics. “We’re proud to welcome Burton as a customer and we look forward to providing effective warehousing and distribution services that help Burton achieve its market expansion goals.”
World Warehouse and Distribution, which operates Burton’s three existing distribution centers in the Northeastern U.S. and Canada, will also be involved with the new facility. Acting on behalf of Burton as the Lead Logistics Provider, World Warehouse and Distribution will work closely with Menlo at the Walnut facility to provide operations assistance for the West Coast expansion.
