OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., Tuesday, October 28, 2008 – Aspen Skiing Company will open Snowmass to athletes and spectators for the first ever Jack-O-Lantern Jib competition this Thursday, October 30, from 6 – 7 p.m. The competition will take place at the top of the Burlingame lift in a Halloween themed park.

All interested ski and snowboard athletes, women and men, are invited to come throw down under the lights against Aspen/Snowmass Athletes on several rail and park features. Entry is only $15 and participants are encouraged to wear a costume.

A significant pile of snow from the record-breaking 2007-2008 season was preserved over the summer by a large snow blanket. This remaining snow has allowed Aspen Skiing Company to fire up the lifts earlier than ever before for the Jack-O-Lantern Jib.

Guests can stop by the Private Lesson Lounge anytime after 5 p.m. on the night of the competition to obtain their free lift ticket. Athlete registration will also begin at 5 p.m. in the Private Lesson Lounge which is across the mall from the Snowmass Ticket Pavilion. Athletes under the age of 18 will need a parent signature to compete.
The Burlingame Lift will run from 5 – 8 p.m., with the last download at 7:30 p.m.
A bonfire will keep the crowd warm while they watch the athlete-judged competition.
Prizes will be awarded from D&E Ski and Snowboard Shop, as well as other Aspen/Snowmass partners, for the best skier, best snowboarder and the best Halloween costume.
