In an effort to provide our readers with the most comprehensive coverage of the current retail climate as possible, Transworld Business has developed a new monthly column we’re calling Retail Round Up. In this installment we examine how specialty stores and department stores are performing based on same-store sales results over that past fourteen months.

Here’s a chart of the past 14 months same-store sales results from more than one dozen retailers.

It’s hard not to notice the overwhelming amount of negative results in the chart. Also, it’s important to note that PacSun will no longer be announcing monthly sales results.

The chart above shows the glaring difference between how The Buckle and Abercrombie & Fitch are performing. The Buckle continues to post impressive same-store sales results (+21 %), while A&F posted the worst result of the past fourteen months (-30 %).

Number Of Consecutive Negative Comps Per Retailer

14 months: The Gap, Wet Seal, Dillard’s, JC Penney

10 months: Abercrombie & Fitch

9 months: Nordstrom

8 months: Saks and Kohl’s

7 months: PacSun (* PacSun stopped reporting comps after last month, which was its 7th consecutive negative result)

6 months: Zumiez
