Mass Transit is nestled in Valley Stream, New York, just a town over from the hustle and bustle of Queens. The shop is one of the few core skate shops in the area, according to owner Tom McVeigh. Mass Transit has stuck to its urban style roots and keeps the goods fully stocked for sneaker-loving clientele. Here’s what McVeigh had to say about Mass Transit’s best selling categories.

BEST SELLING CATEGORIES

1. Footwear:
McVeigh says the people in New York love their sneakers, and Nike, Vans, Emerica, and Lakai are leading the way, edging out skateboard sales.

Best Selling Brand: Nike SB
“Obviously Nike is what a lot of people wear,” McVeigh says. “I think it has to do a lot with location, especially around here next to Queens.”

Best Selling SKU: Nike SB Dunk Hi
Nike’s Dunk Hi model is the best selling item for Mass Transit, with the Blazers closely following. “Nike is a nice feeling shoe and has better quality,” McVeigh says.

2. Skateboards:
At Mass Transit, decks take the number two spot with Girl, Chocolate, DGK, Baker, and Plan B gathering the most hype.

Best Selling Brand: Plan B
Plan B is the best selling deck brand because the graphics appeal to the urban setting according to McVeigh. “They just have that vibe,” McVeigh says.

Best Selling SKU: Plan B Paul Rodriguez Decks
Paul Rodriguez’s Plan B models are receiving the most love at Mass Transit, and Ryan Sheckler’s decks come in second. “Plan B appeals to kids who are new to the skateboarding life,” McVeigh says. He feels the popular pros also help Plan B appeal to the newbies and thinks the brand is very team-based.

3. T-shirts:
McVeigh says that T-shirts take the number three spot for best selling categories at Mass Transit because he thinks certain t-shirt brands tie into the sneaker-loving, urban style.

Best Selling Brand: Diamond
Diamond, Nike, and Altamont are some of the T-shirts selling well at Mass Transit, according to McVeigh, but claiming the top seller is Diamond.

Best Selling SKU: Diamond Logo Tee
“Any T-shirt can sell,” he says. “It is all based on design and ill graphics.” According to McVeigh, anything with the Diamond logo sells exceptionally well.
