ThirtyTwo unveiled their long awaited line of outerwear in NYC last week and threw a roof-top party in their Etnies space in SoHo to celebrate.

I got a chance to preview ThirtyTwo’s first-ever outerwear collection before the festivities. The line is innovative - ThirtyTwo took a true snowboarder direction when creating and designing the line, staying true to their roots and opting for clean, simple lines and color palettes, choosing to add subtle details to the jackets and pants that give the line its panache. The line also gives a nod to environmental responsibility, with four fabrics derived from recycled materials.

ThirtyTwo partnered up with a pattern maker with more than fifteen years experience to deliver a range of cuts and styles for all kinds of riders without sacrificing function. It’s the kind of outerwear that will carry you through intense conditions, and keep you safe from getting caught by ski patrol.

Not to be forgotten is the new ThirtyTwo boot line, which continues to evolve and push the envelope in tech and style. While the outerwear line is understated in color, the boot line stays true to ThirtyTwo’s skate history, incorporating street and skate into the feel and look of their boots.  The front runner in tech is the Prime boot, which features the new power wrap cage that gives a snug specific fit and dramatic heel hold.   Each line of boot, such as the ever-popular Ultralight and TM-Two have exclusive color ways and personal touches created by top team riders. These lines will only be available to specific retailers.

The ThirtyTwo party had a strong attendance, with a huge crowd of shredders, skaters, hipsters, and media. DJ Soul was spinning the tunes, and riders JP Walker, Joe Sexton and Simon Chamberlain were in the house. Party-goers got a sneak peek of the ThirtyTwo and StepChild movie “This Video Sucks,” which features LL over fast-paced cuts, from park bangers and cliff spins to inner-city jibs.
