Jordy Holds The Lead, Machado Makes a Major Move
Well, the economy shit the bed, some companies announced layoffs, and retail sales were disappointing at best. But what does that have to do with Surf Exposure-Meter? Whelp, with tight budgets come fewer ads, and fewer ads equals less exposure for athletes; a thinning of the herd if you will. So, will the cream rise to the top? Will the effects of the market trickle down into Exposure-Meter, or are pro surfers immune to the economic downturn? Let’s have a look.
For the second straight month, Jordy Smith is at the top spot, but his lead has been narrowed to a mere 300 points. That’s less than one page’s worth of points. Mick Fanning, Jamie O’Brien, Dane Reynolds, and even Bruce Irons have a shot at securing the top spot over the course of the next two months, but it’s going to be tough.

Here’s why: Slater secured his ninth world title and Rob Machado somehow managed to move up to ninth from 22nd.
Machado scored 12,900 points in one month! That’s just crazy. If he had started the month with zero points, he’d be in 29th right now. It’s the most impressive month any surfer has had in Exposure-Meter’s recent history.
Slater, on the other hand, just furthered his legend by clinching world title number nine. It goes without saying that his sponsors will shower him with congratulatory ads, but we’ll have to wait and see how much of an impact that, in conjunction with edit coverage, will affect his finish in the Exposure-Meter race this year.
You can’t afford to miss next month’s issue. Seriously, times are tough and Exposure-Meter is free—so don’t miss out.
