MJ Holds Lead, Battle For First Heats Up
One more month to go, and the race for first gets even closer. MJ, Malto, and Silas all had photos this month, But Malto crept ahead of Silas to reclaim his second-place status—now trailing MJ by a mere 3,850 points. There’s one month’s worth of magazines left to tabulate, including the farewell print issue of Slap. If one of these guys gets a cover, or a spread, or a smattering of ads, they could claim it. J-Lay got bumped from the top five when Duffman came to town. A cover and interview in The Skateboard Mag, and a bunch of ads brought Corey up from eleventh to fourth—all the more impressive when you consider he was the overall points winner for 2007. This kid doesn’t take a break—he even broke his leg last summer!
The big jumps this month are Jamie Thomas and Chris Cole, no doubt the result of Fallen’s “Ride The Sky” coverage. Jamie jumped from 141st overall to 32nd, thanks to a Skateboarder cover and interview, and Cole leap from 90th to 16th with a Transworld cover, interview, and poster. Lance Mountain also killed it this month, climbing from 169th up to 38th overall, with a Thrasher interview shot in his own backyard!
On the photographer side, Black Box’s Joey Shigeo continues his climb. His JT and Cole interviews earned him 19,800 points this month. Combined with the 223,000 he earned last month, he’s safely in 6th place. Way to break late, Joey!
Okay, that’s it until 2009. The January issue will unveil the winner, and we’ll give him a trophy, or a high five, or a fish taco or something. Happy New Year!
