Shepard Fairey Responds To Arrest In Denver During The DNC

A few days ago news broke that Shepard Fairey—one of the world’s most well-known street artists, founder of Obey Giant, and creator of the now iconic multi-toned picture of Obama’s face donning the word Hope—was arrested in Denver on August 25. Fairey was in town for Manifest Hope, and art gallery event being held in conjunction with the Democratic National Convention. While hanging posters for the event Fairey and a small crew of filmakers were arrested around midnight in an alleyway near 16th Avenue and Sherman Street. Fairey recently released a video interview in reaction to the arrest. Check it out Right Here.

Shepard Fairey is such a blowhard douchebag. I mean give me a break asshole…..a fucking stupid socialist / propaganda style piece of artwork that portrays Obama as the 2nd coming or something. A bunch of followers and another example of how young people believe everything they hear on MTV. It’s way more punk rock to be a Republican these days. I’m not saying that Bush wasn’t an idiot, but McCain clearly is the most experienced person to run this country.

whatevs has some interesting points, because while i do respect Shepard’s past and his artwork, i feel the whole obama backing is just giving into the propaganda that he was so against and that he’s made his whole career off of. obama is a true socialist, and unfortunately socialism only ever ultimately leads to slavery. i won’t get started on his fastening to the UN or the fact that he’s never really done anything notable on a national level, but this whole obama campaign is propaganda at its highest level. also, it is FAR FROM PUNK ROCK to be republican these days, unless you’re talking about the potentially newly formed conservative party? not sure if that exists, but joining the neocons is not cool at all. it only leads to the police state that shepard was apparently a victim of here and i feel for him in that aspect…. but it’s time to wake up, people, and the biggest problem is our monetary system. learn from the past and research the atrocity that occurred in 1913.

Shepard Fairey is a sell out. His clothing company does special favors for the corporate monsters that are Nordstroms, Active and Zumiez. He complains about how the system makes up its own rules, in this case it was “Interferance”, but yet his clothing company won’t open small skate DIY run skateshops. He protects the corporate system that contributes to bullshit….like “interferance”. Look around you, the DIY skateshops are disappearing and Obey is heavily contributing to it. He’s just started making real money and he’s already forgot. I have lost any respect for him. Lame.

Shepard Fairey’s original HOPE image of Obama is not ‘original’. It is based off of a poster that another artist made of Che in the 60s. Shepard Fairey is a copyright violator and petty criminal. Look up Rene Mederos and the work that Shepard stole from him. He does not give anyone credit unless he is caught, or “busted” as he puts it.
Why on earth did Obama make him his official campaign artist? Obama actually sent Shepard a letter praising his career and his illegal activity, like putting Obama stickers on stop signs! So does that mean that Obama supports illegal activity that cost tax payers billions per year in city clean up? Why is the media not pointing this out? Obama refuses donations from Rezko but accepts $400,000 in donations from Obama merchandise from this thug?
Shepard Fairey has has made images of the White House burning in the past. How is that not negative for this country? Better question, why does Obama praise Shepard’s career? Because he is a socialist. That is why.
The only copyright Shepard Fairey acknowledges is his own. Obama has said great things about the arts and how he will fund art education and programs, but at what cost? His actions by hand picking Shepard Fairey to reperesent his campaign visually proves that he does not care about the rights of artists. The fact that Obama does not answer his artist supporters about his thoughts on the oprhan works bill also shows that he does not care about the rights of artists. He cares about art, but not about the rights of those who create it!
