Quiksilver announced today that it will be eliminating 200 positions at the company. According to company spokesperson Joshua Katz, 150 employees will be losing their jobs. The other 50 positions were approved and budgeted for, but not yet filled.
Approximately twenty-percent of the jobs eliminated will be at the management level or higher.
Here’s the press release:
Quiksilver, Inc. Takes Steps to Reduce Costs in Americas Region
Company to Eliminate 200 Positions
Spending Cuts in the Americas to Total Approximately $40 Million
Huntington Beach, California, January 26, 2009–Quiksilver, Inc. (NYSE: ZQK) today announced
that it is taking additional steps to reduce expenses in its Americas region as part of an overall
restructuring effort to reposition its business and in response to the continued decline in the
consumer retail environment. The cost saving measures are expected to reduce expenses in the
Americas region by more than 10%, or approximately $40 million annually, and will impact nearly
all functional areas. The company will eliminate 200 positions as part of the plan, including a
reduction-in-force of approximately 150 employees which is expected to account for roughly onethird
of the annual cost reductions. Quiksilver expects to record a charge of approximately $5
million in its first fiscal quarter as a result of these actions.
These cost reduction measures are in addition to expense reductions made by the company in
2008 and other actions already taken in the company’s European and Asia Pacific regional
businesses.
Robert B. McKnight, Jr., Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Quiksilver, Inc., commented, “Beginning last year, we initiated a process to reduce our corporate
overhead and cut spending in each of our regions. While these measures improved our overall
cost structure by more than $35 million, our commitment to further streamlining the business and
the continued decline in the retail environment make additional steps necessary. Our spending
cuts are across-the-board, touching each of our internal organizations and systems in the
Americas, but have been designed to drive improved efficiency while minimizing the impact to our
customers and other business partners. All levels of our organization are affected by these
actions as nearly 20 percent of the employees involved in the reduction hold manager-level titles
or higher. Our management team has worked together on these cost reduction measures with
the primary goal of becoming better positioned to weather the current environment and to meet
our business objectives moving forward.”
As a part of its reduction in payroll, Quiksilver provided news of further pay cuts for members of
its executive management team in an SEC filing last week.
The company also reaffirmed that its efforts to restructure its uncommitted debt in Asia Pacific
and Europe remain on track for completion in February.

Times are tight.
What small half-ass companies will go out of business? Predictions?
We are upon a major consolidation in action sports.

josh hunter needs a grammar lesson
January 26th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Yo english 101 , i think maybe you need a math lesson. The report is about 150 good people losing jobs which most likely affects aprox. 400 family members.
Stoked for you that all you have to do is worry about grammar. Get a life !
January 26th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Time for big companies to get lean.
Also time for small companies to take advantage and break into when some of the big boys fall out…
January 26th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Wow Cortney Jay , that is genious ! Ever think that the big companies are cutting back because retail sucks , so what are those small companies going to break into ?
January 26th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
It is “losing” not loosing and you are one heartless dude wiseGuy .
January 26th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Don’t worry English 101, my grammar skills are just fine.
When you have to post news about 150 people losing THEIR jobs at a company where you have dozens of friends, it’s easy to overlook whether you use a possessive pronoun (their) or simply the pronoun form (there). You’re right though, the homonyms there, their, and they’re are among the most frequently F’d up in the english language.
Thanks for visiting the site.
If you’re really interested in that type of thing, you’ll have a ball with this:

You are a kind man Josh and a fine southern gentleman ta’ boot!
This is heartbreaking news . Perhaps it is time for an article on the human side of lay-offs . Maybe then there won’t be such a lack of compassion as we are seeing from some of these Comment Threads ?

Sorry to heap bad news on top of bad news but…
California’s unemployment fund is out of money. This means that unless the feds step in, unemployment benefits may not be available.

Always curious around this equation about the white elephant in the room, no, not DC, but Mervin Mfg… Never given props as DC, or negs as albatross Rossi. Simply not mentioned in countless press releases around Quiksilver’s Wintersports business, yet acquisition back in 1997 is their longest association. Seems like a terribly awkward time going into SIA with Mervin attached to a sinking ship, albeit superman T Rice…
January 27th, 2009 at 5:13 am
Quiksilver doesn’t own a majority/controlling interest in Mervin. They just give the perception they do…
January 27th, 2009 at 6:50 am
Josh Rips too!!Keep up the good work Brother!
January 27th, 2009 at 6:52 am
Hi everyone
loosing jobs is not good , its very easy to judge poeple and businesses but u just never know whats going on behind the scenes , in lean times big changes can happen , stay positive and look for ideas , I know people that have collected empty bottles to make money so , you do what you need to do
all the best to all the people
I know I can’t spell but I try
January 27th, 2009 at 9:23 am
The only people to blame is the higher ups at Quik. There is allot of honest hard working people that are loosing their job because people mis-managed that company….Shame on upper management!
January 27th, 2009 at 9:37 am
Read in the LA Times business section that Nike wants to make a play for Quik….
Hmmmm….
January 27th, 2009 at 9:44 am
Man oh man…this news is terribly heartbreaking!!! Dudes, I have never seen this economy in such bad shape, as it is now, in all my 49 years of life! First, 150 jobs at Quik got whacked last year, Samuels splits, Carol got canned, CEO Bob and his peers take a paycut, DC goes to VFC, now 200 more positions (150 at HQ, 50 at Mira Loma) are getting whacked! When is the bleeding gonna stop?! As for myself, I ain’t doing so peach either. California is on the verge of bankruptcy as well? JEEZ! I can’t speak for the rest of you, but this spells out A DEPRESSION, not recession. Losing your job is devastating, especially in these tough climes! Josh, my man, what can we do? I’m scared dude, really scared!
January 27th, 2009 at 10:08 am
Man , when you put it that way , it really is amazing Bob stays and fights , he could just bail and be building a house next Roseman’s on Tavy eh !
He’s got to feel like he is getting pummelled by Roy Jone’s jr. !
Jeesh , props Bob , keep up the good fight , you gotta great corner .
January 27th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Does this mean I will not be able to buy the hottest new core quik styles this summer at Macys?
January 27th, 2009 at 11:16 am
MAJOR YOW! Now, Tim Harmon became the latest casualty to resign from Quik today??? KEEP FIGHTING BOB TO KEEP QUIK ALIVE!!! Bring me onboard when you guys stabilize! I’m on your side Bob 100%!!! This is absolutely awful news, and devastating. I’m looking at my first pair of Quik boardshorts given to me by Jeff Hakman back in 1977….I am really sad. I can’t handle this anymore.
January 27th, 2009 at 11:28 am
The sky is falling ! the sky is falling ! and the big bad wolf is blowing me , i mean blowing my house down ! Get a grip Hammer .
January 27th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Okay, maybe I’m stretching the DRAMATICS a wee bit. But yeah, I am worried for the industry without a doubt.
January 27th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
I would say produce a reality show , but no one would believe this crap. Keep em’ coming DivineHammer , at least you seem to care .
January 27th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
It’s insane…they laid off 200 people but kept some of the insanely over-paid employees that do barely any work! The Director of the Roxy Swim department comes in once a week, gives barely any direction, and gets paid a HUGE salary.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
are you talking about the design director or the sales manager of Roxy Swim? Both of them are still there?? Neither should be, but the sales manager doesn’t get paid very much.
January 27th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Is DeAnna still there ? Michele ? Were any of the lay-offs Roxy ?
January 27th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Wow! Any merchandising directors get let go from Roxy or Quik?
January 28th, 2009 at 3:08 am
Hmmm…, who does own the majority/controlling interest then, smoke & mirrors? What are you saying YES?

January 28th, 2009 at 7:13 am
They should be! The Roxy and Quik merchandisers suck ass, but think their shit don’t stink. I use to look at their directives and laugh my ass off. Horrible! It made everyone on the retail side wonder what they do every month. Especially since there were 3 people in that retail merch dept. I dont know what was worse the directive itself or the clothing.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:58 am
Your right, most of the merchandisers are overpaid, underworked and not innovative. They should all go as they are not adding any value to the company or the shareholders.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Oh wow! Quik only has 3 people in their merchandising dept? I thought they had more than that. If so, I think I know who they are, if they are the females (Visual Merchandising) I know. If so, they should be shown the front door. From my experience with them, they seemed a bit askew in their directives, weird, and out of touch, especially their “fearless” leader. Yeah, I’m a gal and I work at one of the Quiksilver retail stores. Maybe not for long, though. Anonymous, did you work with or for them? It seems you know a lot.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:57 am
One merchandiser was let go from Roxy as far as I know. And 2 sportswear designers. But I agree, there are way too many merchs. Roxy is totally a merchandiser run company and not a designer run company.
And I was talking about the Design Director from swim. She’s been in the biz for like 20 years…but she doesn’t deserve her salary for the amount of work she does.
January 28th, 2009 at 11:05 am
yup, Quik peeps were promoted to VP like they were going out of style in the past 3 years, these new VP’s are useless, wasteful, and great at blowing smoke up the exec’s bungholes. These are the ones who need to get the boot. They treat you like crap if you’re not at a VP level. And the Senior VP of mens M&D is so bad and so lazy (probably why he promoted all his “friends” to VP - so he didn’t have to work so hard)
January 28th, 2009 at 11:16 am
Hmmm. Yeah these girls (especailly one) were pretty mean and bossy when they would come to our store.
January 28th, 2009 at 11:17 am
Well some of the ones laid-off must surf , the line up in S.C. just swelled this a.m. and the parking lot is full of Tundras and Range Rovers , but that’s cool , i just yell ” hey is that Bob Mc Night over there? ” and snake em’ when they look !
January 28th, 2009 at 11:20 am
Jules ya I worked for them in the past. Those are the “fearless” never wrong ladies I was referring too. I loved the culture and family atmosphere they offer and wouldn’t of traded it for anything. Since your still in the retail side you probably seen over the past year the culture and family atmosphere disappearing so i decided it was time for me to disappear. There’s no accoutability at home office and they have issues listening to any suggestions to improve stores/product/sales from the people living and breathing it every day in trenches. In the past I would of done anything for the old quik
January 28th, 2009 at 11:22 am
I don’t know much about the Men’s side…but I do know that there are a lot of bitches in Roxy that walk around as if they own the company (and most of them are the merchandisers). Not one of them is a surfer which is probably why their product doesn’t sell that well. They are not part of the culture so they just DON’T get it.
I do agree about the VP level promotions. For a while there Sr level or Director level jobs where given “VP” titles. It’s just a way to make them all act big-headed and treat you like crap because you’re a worker-bee.
January 28th, 2009 at 11:28 am
Thats the truth pissed! I never met anyone for the men’s side. I’m pretty sure the RX merchandisers your referring to did both qs and rx. Your right….they didn’t even remotely resemble or stand for the action sports industry culture. They should be working for bebe or something so they deal with all the other stuck up women that work there. I can’t even tell you how many times they walked into stores and thought they were the SHIT! As soon as they left everyone laughed and business went back to the true culture!
January 28th, 2009 at 11:47 am
I don’t personally know any of these Roxy Merchandisers but I will agree that there are way too many people in the industry with no ties to the action sports industry at all. It’s pretty apparent when you look at some of the apparel that is offered by some of these “core” companies. A lot of the juniors apparel looks like Hollister clothing with a “core” logo on it. Same for Men’s surf. It’s just the same old shit trying to look new. I’m stoked I didn’t call up Quik when I opened my shop but some of the other surf brands just copy each other season after season.
January 28th, 2009 at 11:57 am
it’s not just Roxy ! Billabong , Volcom all of them think they are the S.H.I.T. !
January 28th, 2009 at 11:57 am
Hmmmm…who does own a majority/controlling interest then? Smoke & mirrors?
January 28th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
The QS Men’s and Roxy merchandisers barely know each other, they are separate divisions, they dont even know what each other is doing. The men’s divison is run by a guy who came from Gap, Guess and Disney who is Gay! not that there’s anything wrong with that, you can just see it in the clothing now, flamboyant hidious garbage. Probably why no one in the surf industry is buying it. it belongs at the outlet Malls! not in core surf shops. Roxy is for babys! Hollister is way cooler than the garbage Roxy is putting out.. The new Women’s line Quik just launched is also crap. They’re trying so hard to be cool. They can’t make up their minds are they a surf company or a heroin sheik wanna-be high fashion brand? Bad decisions made by this Disney guy and his useless ‘VP’s” who know nothing about culture but make you believe they do.
January 28th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
I really don’t think that Hollister is cooler than the clothing Roxy is putting out. They are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Hollister does the same t shirt designs season after season just with different colors and different placement of the logo on the tee. They will fade with time when the new “it” brand comes along and all of the teenybopper mall girls go crazy over it. That new women’s line is definite crap. They are trying to be a high class fashion brand along with their “surf” clothing. They need to dump most of their design team and start fresh! For women’s clothing right now, I think Nikita is doing really well design wise.
January 28th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
That Gay guy is a vp of retail i thought not a merchandiser. he still goes to the store but is hardly ever seen wearing quik. QUik/RX retail store merchandisers were all ladies
January 28th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Sometimes “basic” is good, who needs to be sprayed with out-dated brands and their lame image…. whatever… all these exec’s are turning up at other companies anyway…. hope they don’t run Billabong and the La Jolla Group into the ground… no one is doing as bad a Quiksilver, they’re dying, all I can say is Karma….
January 28th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Anonymous: the gay guy is the Senior VP of Men’s M&D. Retail is someone else. His name is Erik, He came from Disney, Gap and Guess, he recruited all his friends from Gap and then promoted the lamest people up the corporate ladder… he’s a smooth talker the place started going downhill the minute he was hired. He replaced an awesome person!
January 28th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Hollister is DEFINITELY NOT “cooler” Roxy, Billabong, etc. Hollister is a poser brand that isn’t based in surf at all but claims they are. Just read the article Josh posted months ago:
http://business.transworld.net/2008/08/07/how-hollister-co-stole-surf-eight-years-after-abercrombie-fitch-invaded-the-surf-market-what-can-be-done-to-defend-against-them/
January 28th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
I thought his name was Steve J. Wasn’t he the VP of Merchandising for Quik? And some other gal was or is the director of merchandising? Oh heck, I’m all confused. LOL! Things change so much at that place from what my friend tells me.
January 28th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
I think it’s a major mistake that companies allow their product to be driven by merchandisers. The designers (sportswear and graphics) are the ones with all the talent, yet company’s like Roxy let these girls who know NOTHING about design dictate how everything should look based on “what sells.” Sure, everyone wants to make money and have good sales, but if you design everything based on what sold before…your product is going to look really dated and lame.
The big companies need to look at brands liek Obey where the ARTISTS run the show…NOT managers.
January 28th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
In Roxy there are TWO directors of merchandising!!! And they both go home at 5 when everyone else stays until 10 at night doing the work because nothing is ever good enough for them.
January 28th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
quiksilver???
More like Kook silver, i dont and will never wear a stitch of the gear they put out.
January 28th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
You’re right the Men’s & Women’s merchandisers don’t interact with each other. However, that “gay” merchandiser who ran mens has left now and he’s one of the best at what he does in the entire fashion industry. Anyone who has worked with him knows how good he is at his job and what an honor it is to work beside him. Quik may have lost market share in the recent years due to marketing & image appearance but the clothing line has killed it for years mainly due to this guy. I would say he’s the last person you want to put blame if you’re going to rip Quik.
Oh, and Hollister is hardly “cooler” than Roxy. Last time I checked, Ohio didn’t have a pier so why do they have “pier cam” in all of their stores? Talk about kooky. Their business is based on the nicest quality garments, not art or cutting edge fashion. I respect that and they do make great blanks but the surf image they portray, to me, is a joke. At least Roxy, as a brand, is into the lifestyle.
I wish Bob the best. It’ll be a shame to see Quik be consumed under Nike or VF’s umbrella.
January 28th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Thats not true Quik does own Mervin which is considered a sub division of Quiksilver Intl. They left Mervin pretty much up to themselves for the first few years but have increasingly taken over more control with management positions and such. Mike and Pete own the property and the building and thats about it. As far as the future holds?
January 28th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
It seems like most people have quite a bit of experience and resentment towards Quik. Totally understandable. They completely lost sight of who they were for the past few years. I agree when the guy from the Gap came in, the company began it’s decline. However they would be in pretty decent shape if it wasn’t for the horrible Rossignol acquisition. That had nothing to do with Gap guy. His methods and posse he brought in did not help the situation though. From what I hear if you were not part of his “crew” you were ousted. Sad…our industry needs big corporate talent, but these big shots need to respect the culture and soul of of it all. In most cases they seem to bring the “whatever it takes” mentally that got them to where they were. I’m sure he played his cards right and got a nice fat severance on his way out. I heard he’s now a head guy at Levis! A wolf in sheeps clothing…
January 28th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Ha-ha…the gay guy is now the “head guy” at Levi’s. LMAO!
January 28th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
I am amazed on all these comments. I was a director at Quik that was laid off yesterday. They cut from the top and bottom, and it was really random. I moved 3,000 miles for that job, but hope the best for the friends I leave behind.
Lay offs are awful. period.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Well said K! layoffs suck in general!
January 28th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Does the “K” stand for “Kelly” by chance? J/K…. Good luck to you. Quik sucks sachel.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
QUIK SUCKS!
January 28th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Why do people hide behind their computers and throw uneducated insults? Grow up, get educated and stop hiding behind your computer. It’s not like any of you have any importance to the ASI industry anyways. Leave your name! Look at Duke from surfside; at least he uses his name with opinions. It seems like the only person who knows anything about Quiksilver is the guy who was laid off yesterday. Sorry to hear, I hope the best for you.
For all of you who are clueless and talk shit about Quiksilver, karma will soon catch up to you. Make sure you’re secure with your own job as the grim reaper is coming….
January 29th, 2009 at 1:41 am
Steve Seanna sucks !
Teasing , lighten up , who cares ?

January 29th, 2009 at 8:07 am
thank goodness the “K” does not stand for Kelly. Quik needs him right now!
No, its Katherine. i just turned 30 and will bounce back as soon as this sinks in.
Since my roots are back east, I am scared I will have to move home and leave all
my wonderful California friends I have made my 5 years out here.
There might be a website starting as a support network for us. So many good people that were just salary figures when it came to decision time.
its happening everywhere.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:44 am
Quiksilver is a great company who has helped the industry grow into what it is today. Not to mention they have a surfing CEO which can’t be said for some other companies in our industry. From what I understand they paid their people a good wage versus paying them 20% less then what they could get for the equivalent job in another industry. Every company is going through a downsize to some degree and it is unfortunate that they had to cut jobs.
They hit the perfect storm as they had a bad run with the Rossi acquisition and then the simultaneous credit crunch. There sales are still solid and DC is growing at a rapid pace. Not to mention their Quik Performance line and Quik women’s have great opportunity for growth.
That being said I think they do need some new blood in the executive ranks. People who have been in the culture and lived it since their inception and have a good business mindset. Those are tough to find but they are out there,
Keep going Bob. I envision the comeback story of the decade when we look back in 5-10 years,
Much Love,

Hilarious that most of the comments on here are from uninformed people that have no idea of the inner workings of Quiksilver or Roxy and the jobs these people (laid-off or not) did or currently do . Probably the same people that make US Weekly, Perez Hilton, and TMZ so successful by subscribing to the garbage they focus on.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:00 am
Well said.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:07 am
I have been listening in here for several days and I am amazed at some of the rude things people say. I have worked for Quik for nearly 11 years now. My job is not (yet) affected because I work in one of the stores, but I am realistic, who knows what will happen next. I just want to say that I have nothing but love for Quiksilver and for the poeple who I work with there. Quiksilver has been a huge positive force in my life. Those of you who are talking trash on the merchandising team have insulted me personally because you are talking about my friends. They are good people, they are passionate about what they do, and they work hard at what they do! I truely hope that Quik can pull through this and flourish. Only time will tell, but staying positive and working harder than ever is what we all need to do no matter where we work or what industry we work in. Quik is not alone, take a look around!
To my friends, mentors, and those I have not met, who have lost their jobs this week, I am sending you positive energy and wish you well.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:13 am
Thank you, some of these posts have me fuming! I agree with you 100%.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:37 am
I agree. Anyone on this forum who disrespects or discredits Bob McKnight should be doused in gasoline, shot in the chest with a flaming arrow, and left in silence to hear their skin turn to carbon.
Whoooo Yahhh!
Special Forces is coming to get ya.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:43 am
Right on Suzana … I’ll be sending positive shakras to you as well Earth sister. Keep your Chi aligned and surround yourself with healing stones…then the universe will protect you child.
PS…there’s a drum circle forming on the south side of the HB pier tonight…bring your positive energy and we will dance under the rays of the moon like, and sing to the stars above in hopes that our earth brothers and sister don’t perish under the harsh negative side of the yang….keep you yin in take…. and do you think you could try and work more tie dye into the Quik line?
Maybe a hemp beanie or perhaps even a footbag?
Namaste,
Dream Catcher
January 29th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Without a doubt, KS is my favorite surfer. And there are a lot of nice looking girls that work at Quik. So, that being said, I hope they survive and come out on top. And by on top, I mean, Slater as the 10x Champ and the Quik girls, well, on top…….
January 29th, 2009 at 10:10 am
I will be there with my hemp sack and bongos. Come and learn to knit hemp beanies and blankets which we will be donating to all of our brothers and sisters who have been laid off by harsh negative side of the yang.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:23 am
Well thanks for confirming what I already knew, this is a waist of time.
January 29th, 2009 at 11:02 am
I thought that the bright light for Quik might be there women’s launch. Saw it recently. I don’t know what I was expecting it to be but it looks weak. Does anyone know if its retailing?
January 29th, 2009 at 11:02 am
Seems like some anger management classes are in order here for some of the angry fems on this thread! I agree with Jules and some others. I also work at one of the Quik stores. The merchandising girls that come in from the HQ to “inspect” our store are dumb as rocks. They walk around for an hour, giving us mindless crap for nothing, and leave. They get paid for that? I remember one tall gal, pasty looking, “tweaker” type of the bunch that was annoying as hell. Get rid of her!
January 29th, 2009 at 11:06 am
Suzana, Good words! I appreciate your hard work, dedication, and respect for what you do and what you are a part of. That being said. I think a lot of the nay sayers around here really know nothing. Its all assumptions and specualtion as to what some of these people do or dont do. I think some of these nay sayers are jealous of the history and culture that quik has. I also agree with MR and think that many of these people will be eating their own words down the road with a lean mean Quiksilver in a stronger more resilient economy. Stay positive!

Look at our industry like a Baskin Robbins. What are the two flavors that hands down sell the most? Chocolate (Quik) and Vanilla (Bong). So with that said, all you bubble gum, cotton candy ass selling companies, enjoy your space in the freezer and stop hating on the top seller! There is a fresh bucket of Chocolate about to hit the freezer!
January 29th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Yes, you are right! There is gonna be a fresh batch of chocolate commin’your way: VFC and NIKE are gonna grapple with the scooper! “I been to the top of the mountain and saw all that was well”.

The organ grinder dude and his monkey got let go today! What a drag! The monkey was so awesome doing flips in a mini Quik pair of shorts and tee. I’m gonna miss him…

Which management positions would those be???
February 1st, 2009 at 10:14 am
Um How about the title controller given to one Leslie White who pretty much is running the show up there now since moving from so cal. If you see the breakdown in management from Mervin she is at the top of the list.

How can we be insulting you personally if YOU are not a merchandiser yourself. You are obviously not one of the creative people that endures the frustration of a potentially great brand being run into the ground by bossy merchandisers who know NOTHING about art or the surf industry. Most of these girls are just bitches on a power trip trying to prove that they are in charge and we are just piece of shit artists that have to do as they say.
February 3rd, 2009 at 11:02 am
Life imitates art dammit’ , now draw some shiney happy people on them Mac’s and i will buy you a latte’ !
February 3rd, 2009 at 11:14 am
So, apparently the dust has settled on last weeks bru-ha-ha on all the 200 layoffs at HQ. Whew! Does anyone know for a FACT that 200 were actually let go? I’m afraid to call my bud (I hope he’s still there)…I have not heard from him since last Thursday.
February 3rd, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Mr. Kazuki say Quik is da shit and bob to dis! http://www.myspace.com/slimthug
February 5th, 2009 at 8:25 am
um anonymous i think you have the wrong kind of merchandiser (the comment above was not talking about visual merchandisers.)
in mind… shows what you really know about the business.
February 5th, 2009 at 8:48 am
This is HILARIOUS. All these people on here with their opinions and rumors. I can’t believe it! It has made my morning. Not a single one of the negative comments I have read reigns true at all! I can actually attest to that. I think it’s great you all have opinions, but I would keep them to yourselves really since NONE are based on any sort of fact. And even comparing Hollister to Roxy proves my point. If any of you were on the business side of the spectrum you would then see all the hard work and soul that goes into this brand. AND if any of you again were involved in the business you would see all the hard work and effort it takes to pull a season off, sell it and so on. Your all sitting here talking about the “Gay Guy” and you don’t even know his name????? and you think you can conclude your opinions then? wrong. This entire stream of comments is sad. People are losing their jobs all over the country and its up to us to build it all back so that there are jobs again out there. Are you doing your share? No your on the internet bad mouthing a company and its remaining people.
February 5th, 2009 at 8:51 am
yeah your cool. thats because you shop at walmart.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:39 am
here’s what I know -Anonymous- you are Quik suck up and the “gay guy’s” name is Erik Joule! How’s that!
February 5th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Please… think of the children! Wow, way to be totally random and spam.
September 6th, 2009 at 5:43 am
Isaac…
I respect your perspective….His posse was none but surf veterans and promoted many old timers like Matt Andersen and Suzanne. Actually the company had record breaking years….2005, 2006 and 07….unfortunately the Rosignol acquisition along with many, many political issue caused troubles. It seems like things are leveling off there which is great….why so much homophobia? What is the importance of homosexuality in Quik's demise? it is quite intriguing but unfortunately telling about the demise of the surf industry which should be a beacon of tolerance, environmental stewardship and business innovation.

This is what happens when everyone lives high off the hog. Top dogs paying themselves huge monthly checks. Only the strong survive. Funny I use to try to get the line in my store but was turned down because I wasn't "core" enough. Well core rhymes with poor and now you clowns are almost out of business. Serves ya right….. I will check out the new spring line at costco.
