ActionWatch Stat of the Week is a new TransWorld Business column featuring compiled data from the ActionWatch Retail Panel, a group comprised of more than 200 surf/skate independent specialty shops across the U.S.
Core stores saw negative year-over-year numbers again in March, but they fortunately were not much worse than February. While the ActionWatch Retail Panel showed same-store sales down just over 19% in February, March was down 19.8% compared to the prior year.
Men’s woven shirts actually had a pretty good quarter, showing sales increases in the first two months and then only a -5% decline in March, although apparel was overall down almost 25% (see table below). Male shoes also did not fair too badly, showing only a single-digit decline in March. Most other significant product classes were down double digits.
The numbers below show the percent change from the prior year for each of the specified product categories. This report ONLY includes stores that reported on the panel in March 2009 as well as in March 2008.
