Every year SIMA’s Humanitarian Fund holds the Liquid Nation Ball at the palatial La Jolla, California estate of Reef Co-founder Fernando Aguerre. The brainchild of Santiago and Fernando Aguerre, Liquid Nation Ball was originally started to benefit SurfAid International. Now the Ball works with SIMA’s Humanitarian Fund to benefit twelve surf-related social and humanitarian non-profit organizations.

The evening is a much-anticipated highlight on the annual event calendars of the surf industry’s top executives, athletes, and celebrities. This year, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers was awarded with the Humanitarian Of The Year Award for his support and involvement with Surfer’s Healing, an organization that helps autistic children through taking them surfing. In his acceptance speech to the sold-out crowd of more than 450 attendees, Flea said “Anything that I have ever done that is good, that is kind, you know, that is helpful, or gone out of my way to devote a lot of energy to helping other people – it’s just what you’re supposed to do. I applaud the surf industry this evening for coming together like this and using their energy for the variety of charities they support.”

Through a silent auction, live auction, and ticket sales the event raised a record $270,000 dollars, which will go to help fund the efforts of the chosen benficiaries in 2010 and beyond. For more on the event and a look at photos from last year’s event CLICK HERE.
