Pro snowboarder Jussi Oksanen and MDP/Kingpin shred flick director Brad Kremer have launched a new endeavor that focuses on the duo’s environmental bent and distaste for the amount of waste disposable water bottles create around the world. Their new company, Mizu, makes recyclable, BPA free, stainless steel water bottles in various sizes.
Here’s some info on the company from its Web site:
ABOUT US:
We are Mizu.
Two snowboard professionals lucky enough to spend our lives traveling the world and snowboarding for a living. That’s a lifestyle that demands a lot of hydration.
We think plastic water bottles suck. We think 38 billion of them a year choking up our landfills and refusing to decompose, sucks. We also think that the fact that the amount of oil used to produce plastic water bottles in America is enough to fuel about 100,000 cars for a year really sucks. And for the record, we think that bottled water costing more per gallon than it costs to fill your car not only sucks but makes us suckers. We believe that saving your hard earned dollars while cutting down on waste is truly a good thing.
And that’s not all. We at Mizu respect our health: we need it to be on top of our game. What we don’t need are chemicals such as Bisphenol A (BPA) leaching out of plastic bottles into the water we drink and messing with our mojo.
So we took action. We created a water bottle out of stainless steel that not only stops our ever-growing waste addiction, but also means we get to drink our water pure, chemical free and tasting like it’s meant to. A bottle that represents who we are and the life we live. Mizu bottles are 100% recyclable, tough enough to sustain everything from months of snowmobiling in the backcountry, back- to- back flights and surf trips to every day abuse.
We are Mizu, because we believe in living life today in a way that will give you the tomorrow you would like to see.
MIZU’S OWNERS:
Jussi Oksanen: Pro-Snowboarder.
Finnish pro-snowboarder has been one of the world’s top snowboarders for over a decade. With a long list of contest wins including 4 X Games medals, 2 US Open medals and a past competitor in the Winter Olympics, Jussi is a well-known face on the mountains.
He travels the world constantly doing contests, photo-shoots, exploring new terrain and filming for his numerous video sections. This is where the motivation came in for creating Mizu.
“There were 3 key factors for wanting to start up Mizu. First off, there was no bottle that ever seemed to work well enough on a daily basis for what I needed. Water would get warm and taste funky by the end of the day or the bottles would break. Second, I was freaking out at the amount of trash I was collecting in my car while traveling through the winter: the piles of plastic bottles and often no place to recycle them disgusted me. Finally, the more I looked into it the more I realized how catastrophic plastic is to our environment and our health, and I just wanted to do something about it. I love snowboarding, and I want our mountains to be healthy enough for my kids to enjoy it too.”
Brad Kremer: Film director/producer
Brad’s name is synonymous with the snowboard movie. Filming and producing some of the sport’s best movies since 1994, Brad has clocked up his own share of awards, including 5 ‘Movie of the Year’ titles. From Kingpin Productions and Mack Dawg Productions, Having spent the last 15 years of his life traveling the world in pursuit of the perfect shots, Brad’s work has allowed snowboarders the world over to relive some of the best, and most entertaining snowboarding on the planet.
“Lately I have been noticing all the waste we produce in our lives. When I learned of the enormous amounts of energy wasted to produce bottled water, I stopped buying them immediately. At that moment, I learned just how easy it is to make a difference. I wanted to tell everyone I knew about it and how huge the change this small act could make. So I decided to start Mizu to show people just how simple this was: to make a difference in their own lives and at the same time for the world. Mizu is simply about making living responsibly fun.”

Tough questions here because you still have to purchase water in a plastic bottle from somewhere first. 1 litre,1 gallon,2 litre,2.5gallon, or even 5 gallons, they allcomein plastic. The mojrity of people dont drink from the tap (kitchen faucet) because it already tastes like shit, by filling a stainless container with water that tastes like shit, its still going to taste like shit. It just seems that areas with the highest amount of population, usually have the worst quality water, taste, smell, pollutants, sodoes this Mizu water bottle come with a filter ? On the other hand for the select amount of people, that live in an area where you can enjoy tap water, good on ya.

good questions…
the short answer is you dont have to purchase water in a plastic container as you say. the average american spends on average $400 per year on bottled water when the tap water they have is most likely better quality then the bottled water they spend so much money on. if you do not like the taste of your tap water then spend a few bucks on a bad-ass filtration system for your home. you will still come out ahead and you will be saving all that plastic. and if you still would rather buy water, then buy it in large quantities. you will save money and use much less plastic then disposable single use containers.
and yes, we do have plans for a filter adapter for our bottles.

it looks like they just got kleen kanteen to put the name “mizu” on the bottles.
which is cool but they should not claim they came up with the idea. you could probably go to kleen kanteens website and get em cheaper. maybe have your own name put on it!

Hi there. There are a limited number of molds available in production for stainless steel water bottles and this shape is the most effective in our opinion for several reasons, including aesthetics and the fact you can fit ice cubes in it. Every mold is being used by at least one company - that’s just the way it works. Our goal is to reach out to people within the action sports industry and create a brand that can make Eco cool and slip in easily style wise with the other accessories that people like myself, Brad and you use. We are going to be taking the brand much bigger than the water bottle and hope to at least influence the way people who love the things that we do think about plastic water bottles. We haven’t posted our final pricing anywhere yet, but you can be assured that we will be very competitive - it is our aim after all to get our bottles in as many people’s hands as possible. Kleen Kanteen are doing a great job and ultimately, if more people stop buying one-time plastic bottles because of them, then we are all for it! - Jussi

i think water from the steel canister tastes just fine. my whole family has been over the plastic thang. Bottles for kids/schools is a great market. Market to the moms out there…
