Did you know that the first day of winter has even more importance these days? December 21st has been re-coined as World Snowboarding Day. Going strong on its third year, this day of snow celebration is truly the best way to kick off the winter.

The ingredients to make a successful WSD? Combine good snow and nice weather, mix well with conviviality and good spirit, add more than 26 countries, 108 resorts and hundreds of motivated organizers, and you’ll have a day of epic world shred.

The World Snowboard Day is nothing more than a snowboard celebration all over the world.  The task at hand was simple. You like to snowboard? Just do it and organize a local event in your hood. No need for money or a big organization. Your goodwill is enough.

So Burton’s Soho Store took WSD up on the offer. Armed with Christmas spirit, boxes of new product, steaming hot chocolate and the temptation of winning a new 2009 Burton Snowboard, they threw open the doors and waited on a Sunday.

Talk about calm before the storm……

The East coast has been hammered with snow all week, and for the Burton Soho store, this means pay dirt.  The stoke of WDS and the whites of the city streets brought shredders out in droves to stock up for the holidays and upcoming Christmas week snow trips.

Burton store manager Jaki Brown had her two cents to chime in about NYC and world shred stoke- “ Having a chance to get so many people from all over the planet get stoked on snowboarding is what it’s all about for us at Burton Soho. We know what’s good globally!”

By 11 a.m., the store was packed, hot chocolate was going fast and all staff members were on over-drive.  The chaos continued throughout the day and well into the evening with people from all five continents rolling into the Burton Store. It was a full-on international mix, truly perfect for the spirit of World Snowboarding Day.
