The Skate Shop Showcase, held Saturday, June 20 at L.A.’s The Gallery 1018, attracted a crowd of more than 500 people, geared up to support the art scene and the skate industry on Go Skateboarding Day eve. According to Monica Staniec, marketing director at Imagine Marketing Agency, the event was well-attended by a mix of industry leaders, celebrities, artists, skaters and musicians.
Skate Shop Showcase featured a diverse selection of art work from skate retailers, ranging from a robot built from skateboards by Shelter, to live painting by Transport and interactive art displays by ZJ Boading House. San Antonio’s Goodtimes Skate Shop had a display featuring technical portraits by Danny Gonzalez. Winners of the Art of SK8 charity art contest were announced Thursday, June 25. First place went to Lauren McCubbin’s “Blonde On Blonde” skate deck design and San Antonio’s Goodtimes skate shop for “Wall of the Show.”
Here are some photos from event, which also featured live music by Vesuvia Sonic, Ninja Academy and Brevi, as well as a poetry reading dedicated to skate shops written and performed by skate legend Brian Lotti.
