On Thursday, February 19, Torrance-based Podium Distribution held its first Retail Skate Night at their private indoor skatepark. Local shops were invited to come rip, and people from ET, Vanguard, Spider, South Bay Skates, Sunken City, and more showed up to have a burger and a soda, and shred the park with local pros Torey Pudwill, Mike Mo Capaldi, and Tony Tave. DVS Marketing Manager Cullen Poythress says the idea was simple—to stoke out local shops. “It was a definite success,” says Poythress. “We’ll definitely have more of these down the road. They’ll get more organized in the future. Maybe we’ll do mini-contests.”

Torey and Tony Tave rolled in with a deep crew of valley homies.

Julie and Amanda from the Podium sales department, Lakai Designer AJ Dia, and Podium’s Shawn Schumacker handled a couple of cold ones before the shredding began.

Justin Schulte showed up too. The little guy in the foreground was shredding all night as well.

The park doesn’t look that busy in this photo, but the session was definitely hectic.

This is ZJ Boarding House’s Noah. He’s their Manager, Buyer, and Skate Team Manager. He’s also a photographer and the dude that shot the sweet sequences later in this slide show.

This is Mike. He works on Team Pain’s crew and was one of the hammers who helped build the Podium park last summer. Coincidentally he was in town last night. Mike and the Team Pain dudes just completed a massive skatepark up in Sacramento called Epic. He was showing off photos of it on his iPhone.

I spy Kelly Bird and Mike Mo Capaldi.

Burgers were served.

Guess who was on the grill?

Business Tim Gavin becomes Chef Tim Gavin—just add tongs and an apron.

Ricky Webb and Dwindle’s Paul Sharpe. Paul also represents the Podium Skate Park Team.

Podium hooked up everyone with gift bags. Kids were stoked.

Podium handy man Gus Contreras and Mark.

We ran out of burgers so Podium Sales Manager Erik Ecklund and Kelley Meidroth ordered some pizzas.
